Pokemon 5th Generation: What do you hope for next?

From my observations in the Pokemon fandom, most people are sick of Brock and want him to leave. Most people actually wanted Brock gone way back when AG was airing, but he stayed for DP anyway.

Whether he'll go this time remains to be seen. In any case, Brock is nowhere near the popular character he once was in the early seasons.

10 years ago nobody wanted Brock to leave, now on the other hand people would be cheering if the writers got rid of him a second time.

This is what I want to happen.

Make Brock do something else. Really, I like Brock, but even I can admit that he's basically a prop for Ash so he doesn't starve himself to death on his journey

Make the Gen V girl more interesting than Dawn. I thought that Dawn was a great improvement over May, and here's hoping that if they don't reuse Dawn, even though she's got top billing in the anime with the duet song and the fact that they acknowledge her in the opening credits by saying Satoshi and Hikari Adventures, along with Piplup's VA getting billing with the main cast, which is normally a feat for only Pikachu. Though a part of me thinks that Dawn could stay since the new girl basically looks like a sporty version of Dawn. It took me a while to see what Marinite was refering to yesterday when he said that it looked like Lyra's and Dawn's kid, but I think it's her outfit, along with a few features that make her look like Lyra.

Give us more interesting Rivals. I like Barry, Paul, Zoey, and Ursula and how they were used, though I wished that people like Conway, Nando, and Kenny were utlized more, as I thought they had potential, especially Nando with him multiclassing as a Bard/Trainer/Coordinator. I say keep focus on whatever characters you used earlier on and don't lose sight on them.

Stay in Gen V Land. I know I'm in the minority when I say this, but I love the fact that we stayed in Sinnoh this whole time in the anime. I'm not bummed that we're not going back to Johto to celebrate HG/SS release, as I thought the 5 episodes with Lyra in it were pretty well done in how they should handle this when it's Hoenn's time to shine with their remakes to celebrate their 5 year anniversary. I still think that having a locations from the game, yet adding plot points made Sinnoh very enjoyable for me and would like to see it continue in Gen V land.

I think it would be interesting if they changed things up if they are gonna keep running this show forever. I stopped watching the show a year and some ago for many reasons, but if they maybe aged up Ash or just made a new cast, it could get interesting again.

And before the usual quote me, yeah I know the shows not for me anymore, I'm just saying.

Personally, sometimes I feel Brock is still around just for the sole purpose of there being "parental supervision". I mean, can you imagine how much controversy there'd be if Ash had been traveling alone with Misty/May/Dawn? Even factoring in the ages and Ash's complete obliviousness, the concept of a boy and a girl going all over creation with only each other and their Pokemon would just be unsettling.

Point is, so long as we have Ash and whoever his gal-pal is for the series, Brock is here to stay. Doesn't mean he has to be "that guy who makes food and is the butt of all jokes", he's proven in several instances that he can be an awesome bad-ass when he neeRAB to be.

I agree, though, that I'd like the story arcs to actually have a more prominent role in the series. Team Aqua/Magma's arc was horrifically unused during Advanced Generation and, while Team Galactic was better used in Diamond/Pearl, it still didn't happen often enough. I'd rather see episodes like those than "Ash and frienRAB help out some random person" week after week (though, I admit, Diamond/Pearl was much better about mixing it up with stuff like the camp arc; THAT was awesome).

Also, yeah, we might be in store for a time-skip if Ash is to use a car. But, then again, the girl character could be older and her car gets destroyed instead of another bike. Either way, somebody, most likely Brock, is gonna have to get a car (a drivers test episode ala DBZ could have epic potential).

Details on Generation 5 in general (pokemon, region, towns, major characters, villains) are very vague right now. All we really know about "Black and White" are those Pokemon that will be featuring in the movie.

And with Black and White still in development with an unconfirmed release date and the D/P anime series being confirmed to end soon, I have to wonder; will we have another "Orange IslanRAB" on our hanRAB? Or is the end of the Pokemon anime truly drawing near?

Please let the latter be true. Please, please, PLEASE!

I think they should get rid of Dawn. If they don't, and she lasts another 2-3 years/seasons, people will probably go nuts and beg to get her off. Unless they somehow change her and make her more interesting with her Pokemon Contests and/or how she trains her Pokemon.

I do not foresee such happening. The girl switching out is one of the few things that freshen up the series.

As for Takeshi...he'll only leave if money stops goin' to somebody's pocket.

I don't view his Johto team like that and I'm not sure if it really is the least popular team either. I know that you totally hate everything about Johto, but there are other people, besides me, who did like his team and the saga. While I agree that his Johto team was underdeveloped, his Kanto team wasn't that much better. Outside of Pikachu and Charizard, I wasn't really impressed with his Pokemon during the first saga. I didn't think that Bulbasaur and Squritle were strong battlers until the Orange IslanRAB and/or when they returned for the Johto League. Just like in Johto, Ash only used a few Pokemon on his team, while others were underdeveloped, such as Pidegeotto, Squrtile, Totodile and Noctowl.

Though, I think that Noctowl was much more interesting and stronger than Pidegeotto. At least Noctowl had a unique moveset, was pretty smart in a few situations and actually did give him a badge. It is a shame that it was mainly used for popping Team Rocket's balloon after the fourth match, but I thought that it had more personality than Pidegeotto all the same. I do agree with you that Totodile is Ash's weakest Water type, but hopefully when we'll see it again, it will be stronger.

As for Cyndaquil, up until Monferno, I thought it was Ash's second strongest Fire type. He did use it the most out of all his Johto starters, he actually did some on-screen training with it and I thought it was pretty impressive in battle. I also wasn't too disappointed when most of his team didn't evolve. I was expecting Cyndaquil to evolve after defeating Steelix and I thought that it was a shame that it didn't happen, but I got over it in a few seconRAB.

I also don't really know if people still fanboy over Ash's Kanto starters like you mentioned. The main reason they were brought back in the Johto League was because Johto, similar to the original games, were overshadowed by Kanto/the first generation. They also returned for the Battle Frontier, but I believe that that had more to do with FR/LG than anything else.

I also don't think that the writers were trying to make one team more popular than the others. I'm also wondering how you can know that these Pokemon weren't just as popular or more popular with the kiRAB watching Johto at the time. We don't really know how much kiRAB in Japan liked Ash's Johto team.

That is an interesting ideal to have two guys and two girls in the group since it would be a fair balance. I'm not sure if they would have the fifth generation girl there since that would be she would have to be something other than a Coordinator. I know a lot of people would like this, but that would mean that they would have to introduce a new competition. I still don't think that they'll do that with the Pokeathlon and they've spent an equal amount of time on doing Gyms and Contest that I don't know if they'll be able to incorporate a third goal in the main cast.

I would prefer if they got rid of Dawn myself. Not really because people will complain about her staying if she stay long enough, fans in any fandom can complain about anything and everything, but I just don't see her staying beyond this series. Plus, I don't think that the writers will want to promote Piplup when the fifth generation comes along. Though, if they made her a more interesting character, give her better Pokemon, have more training and/or better rivals, I'd be okay with her staying.

Brock is quite possibly the biggest dead weight of the series. I wanted him gone way back when AG was airing, so imagine my dislike of him intensified during DP.

Although his DP team was great, you know what's sad? Brock used to be more interesting than his Pokemon, however now its the other way around. Croagunk is a better character than Brock is.

It sickens me, because like most people I used to love Brock in Kanto and even Johto. He started to become useless during AG, and it continued into DP.

Its so sad that Pokemon has basically become what The Simpsons have become.

It really is depressing. I was always under the impression that Pokemon was building toward a conclusive ending, or at least some sort of closure eventually, but now I realize this is not the case.

It'll be the year 2020 and Ash will still be traveling in the Gen 7 region with girl #6. It's a sick, sad twisted future for the show and it upsets me as I was once a huge fan of it.

I'll continue watching until DP enRAB because I really want to see the league and how they finish the Ash/Paul rivalry, but after this if the 5th gen resets everything yet again, I'm kinda done with it. I can't be bothered to follow another 4-year 200 episode saga with Ash, Girl #4, and Brock for the same nonsense yet again.

That's a good point about the lack of new Pokemon appearing in the series. We usually do have at one or two Pokemon appearing in the anime from new generation. I remeraber some people thinking that the fourth generation would be the last just because we didn't hear any news about a fifth generation for a long time. I think that it had to do with Nintendo not wanting to announce or throw hints about the new games a couple of years in advance. They have been announcing a lot of games within just a few months of their release, so that could have been the reason why we didn't see a fifth generation Pokemon.

I think that fandom that you're referring to are people talking on forums, who are also, more often than not, well beyond the target audience for the series to begin with. Unless we can understand Japanese, I don't think that we can say for sure how the target audience feels about Brock.

I actually would be a bit sad if Brock left. Sure, he isn't really that active in the group, but I like him anyway. My pleasure in the series doesn't decrease just because he's there. Plus, considering that they haven't replaced him since the Orange Island arc, I'm not so sure that they'll try for that again. I have read about the article that said Brock will see a dream or a goal for the future, but that's pretty vague. It could easily mean he's either staying with a sidequest or leaving for some Pokemon-related reason. It still could go either way judging by that statement, but I really doubt that they'll replace him.

Hey now, let's not go that far. Pokemon actually has a story, and character development, and reasons to keep watching it. Simpsons never had that or even bothered to try to have that. Plus I'd say Pokemon got better as it went on (DP arc is my favorite) where the opposite is true with the Simpsons.

But seriously, those moments are incredibly rare.

HELL YEAH! The car episode Pokemon style would kick ass!

[strike]I really just want the anime to acknowledge Orre's existence...[/strike]

No offense, but I'm kind of confused where you got that idea about Pokemon building up towarRAB a conclusive ending or provide some sense of closure. That sounRAB like a nice idea/goal for a lot of series, but I don't think that Pokemon is one of them. Considering that it is repetitive and they've never really explained what it means to be a Pokemon Master, I thought it was clear that they were just promoting the games for years.

It really doesn't sound like an awful future to me. I still love the idea of watching new episodes when I'm thirty-one. Plus, as long as kiRAB love it and it does well enough with promoting the games, that's pretty much the future the people in charge of the show hope for.

I can't blame you for wanting to see how they handle the Ash/Paul rivalry. That has been one of my favorite aspects of D/P too. I think that the chances are excellent that at least Ash will stay with a new team. I don't see a reason for them to get rid of him now. I don't really see Brock leaving either, but there's a greater chance of him leaving than Ash. I think that Dawn will leave if they do want to follow the idea of changing each girl in every series thing. I wouldn't mind it if they added a fourth meraber to the group since I liked that choice in AG.

If it really bothers you that much, then it's probably for the best for you emotionally to stop watching. If watching the series just makes you upset, then I think you're missing out on enjoying the show for what it is.

The thing is, find a show (or story in fiction, for that matter) that lasts as long as this one and tell me with a straight face that the same thing wouldn't apply?

Also I agree with Terror. CyberCubed, Mad Mod 49; if you guys hate what the show has become so much just stop watching, no one's making any of you guys watch it. If you guys hate the main characters so much, just stop watching!
You guys keep going on and on about how much the show has decayed (in your guys eyes' that is) like the amount of complaining you guys do is somehow going to improve the show (or at least make things better in your eyes')! IT'S NOT!
Try to enjoy something for what it is, or ditch it all together.

I'm not saying you guys aren't entitled to criticize something, it's just that your rants on how you don't like what the show is doing have really become tiresome.

I don't think the show is perfect (far from it), and I have a feeling a lot of the people that watch the show feel the same way. But it doesn't mean there aren't things on the show that I've found some level of enjoyment in. Paul is probably the freshest character the anime has had in years. Not so much because of how great a contrast he is to Ash, but he's the type of character that shows how there are cruel people in the world of pokemon that aren't necessarily very caring. The anime had been full of characters that are too goody goody over treating pokemon with care and respect, that Paul IMO was a breath of fresh air.

Speaking of Paul I'm hoping that he'll be in the 5th generation, because he's been too great a character (not to mention a great foil for Ash) to just dump after Sinnoh is done with.

Brock will be here for a while, the anime guys dont seem to want to risk another backlash like the one that apparently happened when they got rid fo him the first time... but seriously though he neeRAB something to do.

What Brock neeRAB is........ HIS OWN RIVAL!!!!

Yeah, I've hoped for that for a while. The only thing I'd find odd with it is that Ash, the mainest of the main characters (even if Dawn was the main girl, which I'd want, I'd probably want Ash to get a little bit more spotlight since he was around from the beginning), would be traveling with one guy and two girls. But oh well... Viewers would probably just see two guys and two girls.

I think the show's big enough and long enough to include a third goal, although it really depenRAB on what it is. Perhaps the goal doesn't isn't something that requires going to places to collect a token in order to participate in a big tournament though.

To be clear, I'm not sure what that new goal would be. Even if the games don't introduce a new goal, the anime writers/producers could possibly find something for the 5th gen girl to do. (Although it'd be easier to just make her another coordinator, but I don't want to replacements to do the same thing as previous merabers, even though that's already happened.)

Yah, that's what I want.
Paul's traveled the same regions as Ash, I say let him come to the next region Ash is heading too. Some how, they can make the rivalry better.

You know it seems like Dawn really is the star of the show these days. Is that on purpose? It seems like Ash is always playing second banana to Dawn's dreams
