Pokemon 5th Generation: What do you hope for next?

Well the new advertisements in Japan confirm the DP trio is splitting up after DP enRAB in Septeraber. They text says, "This is the end of the three traveling together," and so forth.

I'm surprised they're telling us so early on Dawn is leaving, considering there will still be about 22ish eps of DP left. They kept May's departure a secret right up until the very end. I remeraber we didn't know May was leaving right until like the final 10 AG episodes.

I guess this time around the writers want people to know the main girl is leaving ahead of time, so there is no "shock and disappointment" like the way they kept Misty and May's departures a secret till near the end?

Exactly, this is why I don't mind when Ash catches new Pokemon, even if the first four captures follow the pattern of Regional Bird/Grass Starter/Fire Type/Water Type, with the 6th and beyond one always being a random type. I mean, it would get boring if Ash went to Gen V land and still used his Sinnoh Pokes, and I thought it was kind of boring how Ash still had half his Kanto team on him in Johto.

To go one step further, I still like how Hoenn did spice it up by not giving Ash the other regions starters as his designated Water and Fire Types, it was nice to see Ash have a somewhat normal team that you can basically catch in Hoenn. Sinnoh I couldn't really blame with them giving him Chimchar since Sinnoh new fire types were just the Chimchar line, Magmortar, and Heatran, 5 in total. My money was on him getting either a Magby to be a counterpoint to Paul's Elekid at the time, or Chimchar.

Orange IslanRAB was still part of the first gen, of course Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charizard were going to still be around.

Also, Johto started sucking right after Charizard and Squirtle left, so perhaps it would have been better if he kept them throughout most of it. One of the very original reasons the Johto hate started is because Charizard left, and we didn't know if it'd ever come back. People used to say things like, "Why did Ash get rid of his awesome Charizard?" and so forth.

Johto died after Ash's Kanto starters split up, and of course that's also when the GS ball was abandoned with no closure, and all those tedious filler episodes started coming in full force.

I think it's because most people can already see the pattern of replacing the main girl, where as with May we didn't really know for sure what her deal was yet.

Yah, as the person above me said.
We know the pattern, why keep it a secret nowXD
What I want to know is, will Brock really leave this time?
It said, he'd get a dream and what the future holRAB for him.
Either what the spoiler meant was that Brock does leave Ash this time and does his own thing. Or he gets a side quest while traveling with Ash.
Since they like to focouse on Ash and newbie girl so much, I'm assuming the first option. If what this person on another Pokemon forums is saying is true maybe it will be Ash/Fifth Generation Girl/Fifth Generation Boy.
If this does happen, this could very well be the next best series ever.
Finally, new start

I just wish they'd get rid of Brock.

Seriously, is this a joke? Brock's character gets progressively worse and worse with each passing generation. His only saving grace in DP was his Croagunk. Take Croagunk out of the picture, and Brock was utterly forgettable.

Dawn's probably on her way out, so no reason to speculate there. There's also the possibility Contests are done too, with the new girl doing a new second quest.

Be better than seeing three coordinator girls in a row.

Charizard wasn't going to suddenly make every filler episode that much better. He'd be just as wasted as his other team merabers sitting around most of the time until he had to face a Gym leader or something.

I actually love the episode where Charizard left. It wasn't because I disliked Charizard, but it was an emotionally touching episode, showing how determine Charizard was to get stronger. Plus, Ash had to make a tough decision to leave it. Though, it was kind of sad that they just started to bond when it left, but that didn't ruin anything about Ash for me.

I also don't think that he should have kept his Kanto starters throughout Johto since it would have been even harder to promote the Johto starters and have Ash catch more Johto Pokemon. Besides that, outside of Charizard winning Ash his first Johto badge, his Kanto starters didn't really do anything significant during their run in Johto. Even Bulbasaur, who was there until near the seventh badge, was never in a Gym match or did something really that important in the long run. Squritle didn't do much of anything either if I recall correctly, which is one reason I wasn't too sad when Squirtle left.

I don't think that leaving his Kanto Pokemon caused Johto's problems. I think it had more to do with the fact that the writers didn't have much experience with making one saga lasting for much more than a year. Both Kanto and Orange IslanRAB took more or less a year to finish, so the idea of taking one region journey and spreading it across three years was a new task and they didn't know how to handle that or prepare Ash's team for a new region. I thought that they got better with that stuff over time.

Plus, even though there were some filler episodes that dragged on, Johto still wasn't that bad to me. I bought some Johto League Champions DVRAB last month, just to get even hyped for HG/SS, and the filler episode doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as I've heard. There's a couple of dull ones here and there, but most of them have been pretty fun.

Now I do wonder if the region girl replacement is a routine that will continue for every season. I mean theoretically speaking should one ever gain a substancial fanbase with the target demograph, would said region girl remain a regular?

I mean Brock's departure for one was intended as a permanent change only to get reversed due to fan outcry.

Wobbuffet has remained with Team Rocket despite their other regional Pokemon being shown the door.

I'm not so sure about that. I thought that Brock had a bit better treatment in D/P than he did in Johto and most of Hoenn. Plus, Brock did have some active roles in a few episodes, such as the episode where Bonsly evolved, the whole Tag Battle arc and he was actually useful in the whole Team Galactic climax due to his bond with Unixe. He definitely could have been used more often, but I don't think he was utterly forgettable.

I don't really see a reason for them to stop doing Contests now. Granted, Black and White could introduce a new sidequest that could appeal to girls as much as Contests do, but I'm not sure how likely that is. Plus, Contests have been pretty much an equal to Gym Battles for seven or eight years, so I can't really see them dropping them. Contests are more likely to be replaced than Gym battles, but I just can't see them doing that after all these years.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing three coordinator girls in a row. It didn't really bother me with seeing two in a row, so I don't see how three is that much of a difference. Plus, as long as she is a more interesting character than Dawn, has a better team, actually teach them moves and/or have more interesting rivals than Dawn has now, I'll be happy with this new female coordinator.

Well, it was still popular at the time.

Why do you think Ash's Johto team was his least popular team in the entire series? I can think of two reasons:

a) They followed Ash's nostalgic Kanto team of Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charizard. Those pokemon people fanboy in both the games and the anime, the Johto team had huge shoes to fill.

b) They didn't evolve and was seldom used. A little Cyndaquil had no hope of being more popular than Charizard. Totodile and Noctowl are Ash's two weakest Pokemon of his entire lineup.

Then when his Hoenn team started evolving, people viewed the Johto team as crap. Even moreso now that we're at the end of DP, and his Sinnoh team is mostly evolved.

I'm hoping that Ash becomes a pokemon master at the Sinnoh League and the show can finally end. Then they can start a whole new anime for the 5th Generation. Nintendo's said that the 5th Generation is going to be vastly different from usual, so that would be a great excuse to pull the plug on a show that's overstayed it's welcome.

As for this series: Jessie being a coordinator (and a bigger witch than usual) was stupid. Ash, Brock, Pikachu, and Team Rocket were as unentertaining as ever. Dawn became less and less appealing as the show went on. Piplup was The Wesley. Team Galactic was underutelized. Paul is the most boring invincible rival I've ever seen. Cool characters like Zoey, Conway, and Barry weren't developed well enough. Too much continutiy and characters was crammed into episodes in order to keep padding the series. Oh, and did I mention that it's still going on longer than freakin' Johto?

So, as usual, a few of the characters and pokemon were the only watchable things in this show.

Part of this might be because she suffers from comparrision to the much more likeable May. (May might've gotten some of that to in comparrision to Misty, but Misty having been boring during Johto probably lessened it a bit) The other reason is that her character arc was just filled with wasted potential. Had she not been so immature, such a loser at so many contests, and even companions with Ash and Brock, she would've been a thousand times better. And yeah, Piplup is The Wesley.

Yeah, that would make Dawn into what we call a "Faux Action Girl."

Lyra was a walking advertisement. There was barely anything interesting about her.

Agreed about James and Brock, but not about Jessie. Her "purpose" of being a rival coordinator just did not work for me. Jessie's a meraber of Team Rocket, why should she be a coordinator just 'cause she's female?

Right. It'd be a lose-lose situation. Which is why Ash should've been dropped a long time ago.

They can be incompetant villains who still present a challenge and pose a threat. Like they were in the first season, remeraber?

HERE HERE!

What I HOPE happens 5th gen? Well...

Title of the series- I dunno. Pocket Monsters Black & White, maybe? It might sound awkward, but it isn't really that less creative than calling an anime series Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl, is it?

Ash- I hope he stays. And I don't see him leaving so... yeah. Now, if Ash was to be replaced, I don't think the Pokemon franchise would just borab. But I do understand that getting rid of him is a big risk to take. Maybe Ash's replacement would be even more successful than Ash. Or maybe things'll turn out really badly. If the latter happens, what are the chances of The Pokemon Company "redeeming" themselves to the point they were at before, or higher? Not sure exactly how kiRAB in Japan- the target audience- would take Ash's leave.

Dawn- When May was around, I didn't want her to leave. I wanted her to co-star with Ash and be the main girl, but that didn't happen, did it? By now, I've wanted Dawn to stay permanently and be the main girl. Of course I'd want the writers to improve her character. When she debuted, she wasn't any different from how I thought she'd be. Besides, if she's gonna be another coordinator, I'd much rather have her stay and improve her character than just be a simple eye candy coordinator replacement that'll just get replaced by some new girl. Because IMO, the writers can give Dawn all the hype and spotlight they want, but if she's just replaced by new eye candy, that doesn't matter to me.

Brock- Keep him and improve his character, or give him a really good ending. I don't want him to leave as the dude who just stopped doing much. If he does leave (which I don't really see happening, and I won't ever see happening if he stays next gen), I don't want him to be replaced by another breeder. Brock has gotten, or is getting to the point, where he's been around for so long he might as well stay forever. (I wish Dawn would get to that point, and I think the way for that to happen is for her to stay in the 5th gen. I think the end of D&P is the easiest time to get rid of Dawn while keeping Ash. After that, it gets "harder.")

5thGenGirl- Have her do some 5th gen quest that I hope is in the games. She and Dawn make two girls- twice the eye candy. (Not that I'm in support of it- I'm just saying.) And if the eye candiness gets too much somehow, the makers of the show can just tone things down. (Actually, I'd prefer that, but that's too much to ask.) And of course, make this girl character interesting.

JJ&M- Have 'em stay. I don't care about 'em that much these days, but I'm in no desparate need to get rid of them. I wish their organization as a whole did more, but that's not happening, so whatever.

About the same sense as Ash, Pikachu, James, Jessie, Meowth and Brock (and if he leaves the main cast permanently, I'll even eat my Pokewalker) for the most part.

Also, before I forget to ask, I know that the upcoming movie will feature a 5th Generation Pokemon, but I'm surprised that the anime has had a severe lack of future generation Pokemon (to my knowledge).

I mean Kanto had Ho-Oh, Togepi, Donphan and Marill. Johto had Kechleon, Latios and Latias. Hoenn had Lucario, Munchlax and Bonsly. But unless I missed something, I don't recall any other G5 Pokemon showing up yet.

Well honestly, the best thing they could do is animate Pokemon Special. That would take care of everything.

But seriously, get rid of Brock and have something as epic as the Galactic arc again (but for like half the series or something). Maybe give Ash the car that we might be getting.

I could get behind a special focusing on the guy from the Orre region in Colosseum.

^ I know. And possibly keep Brock. If he leaves, I hope he's replaced by a guy who's not a breeder but brings something interesting to the table besides being new. And the 5th gen girl would be in the cast. (I didn't really make that clear.)

So, from D&P to the new series, we'd either go from Ash, Dawn, Brock to Ash, Dawn, Brock, 5thGenGirl

or

Ash, Dawn, Brock to Ash, Dawn, (5thgen?)Guy, 5thGenGirl
