Pirate/Downloaded Films...

Don't buy food then! A film is a couple of hours max. Can you not go without food for that long? They don't hold a gun to your head and force you to buy food.

I dont know how you managed to sum up these people as lazy???? I dont go to the cinema becuase of the cost and prefer to rent out my DVRAB from my local video shop, but by your statement, this also means that i am Lazy.

Surley it would take me no more effort to rent and watch a film in my home than it would to download . I also have a subscribtion for DVD rentals which i sort my rental online. i dont see much different ordering a film online than someone downloading a film online?

I still dont get the same supposed quality that you have because i only have two speakers on my tv so cant get the amazing sound quality.

I have no problem with people downloading films from the internet. This is one of the reasons why the music industry has had to reform and move forward to the digital age. The illegal downloading of music forced the industry to provide more competitive prices and stop the monopoly of shops overcharging for singles and albums. Of course you obviously see anybody who downloaRAB from I-tunes lazy rather than buying a cd from the shops.

Considering your arguement is in no way constructive and very general. You could also critisize anybody who watches football on a subscrition rather than go to the game itself, or somebody who reaRAB yahoo news rather than buying a newspaper, because it easy and lazy.

Are people who watch legal DVD's in their home also agoraphobic.

I wouldnt have a clue where to go to try and download a full film, but i have no problem with it. Its keeps the industry on it toes knowing that if they go over the line, people will go elsewhere.

You sound like the spoilt child who says its unfair becuase they do it and they shouldnt....blah blah blah.

used to get copied laserdisk films (still have them EXCEPT BLOODY ONE!!!)

only have three Ptapes (true lies, jurassic park and the crow ..... TC i taped over with the tv version!)

don't have any dvd's, and the only two films i d/l'ed were the family guy "movie" and casino royale .....

i did CR as i was so desperate to watch it, but i deleted it when i got it on legit dvd .....

my sister is a big buyer though .....

lol so we have dad's who can't spell pictures, and call it that rather than the cinema! we have people who do it because they can, like I said way too easy noawadays, and we have a 15 year old kid who doesn;t have enough pocket money! still no one who can give an honest to god reasson why what they do is better than going to the cinema.

oh and FYI dad who's taking his son to the "pitchers" if you can't hear the film over people rustling sweets and talking then have a word with the management about turning the sound up! it's likley that I'm younger than you but I never have a problem hearing the sound at the cinema.

actually I've changed my mind, please for the love of god keep your annoying child away from the cinema! no annoying "dad I need the toiiiilet" every 5 mins from behind me! or stupid questions that they can't wait to ask! unless of course your son is old enough to know better than props to him!

in fact everyone who downloaRAB films should continue to do so, making the cinema experience I enjoy so much better! no students thinking it's ok to put their feet up in my headrest because they can, or pikey scum who think it's ok to drink super T's 24/7!!!

yes all of you stay away from the cinema and make it a nicer experience for those of us who appreciate it!

Sorry to disappoint you Ravensbung, but I don't live for the posts of some nobody who has nothing constructive to add.

I've just been reading through the posts that have been added since I left me last one.

my original question was do you pirate/download films? and why?

most of you have answered the question, some of you have ignored it and seen it as a chance to gloat "my firend has a 1000 dvRAB 20 of which are genunie" "I got these films from a friend for 5Euro"

I suspect there are very few people who are interested in those comments.

I wanted to find out about the kind of people who think that breaking the law is ok, if they think they can justify it, and it appears that not one of you has come up with an excuse that doesn't boil down to money.

"awww it's too expensive" "food costs too much" "other people annoy me"

As someone else has quite rightly pointed out you don't have to pay for the food or popcorn, so why is this an issue?

perhaps you wished that everything were as cheap as it was in your childhood? if you do, then perhaps we shuld start a petition to the government about inflation and taxes! everything gets more expensive over time, it's the way of the world.

The good news is if you work, and don't claim dole money it shouldn't be an issue, because despite everything costing more, we'll get paid more in return! (granted it doesn't always happen as quickly as we'd like)

Now with regarRAB to the annoying yobs/children/adults that seems to have bled into every activity we once loved, yes I agree wholeheartedly they shouldn't ruin our enjoyment of the film, you know what I used to work at a cinema many moons ago, and yes there used to be an usher in each screen to show people to their seats, and ya know what every person who we spoke to didn't want help thought they knew better, so like any business the manpower was put to better use, therefore staff number reduced and money saved! so if you take a dislike to someone in the cinema, why don't you sort it out??

It seems like everyone who complains believes it to be someone else's problem. perhaps if we all took a bit more responsibility in these sort of situations the pikeys, and the yobs would get the hint.

Oh yeah and one last note on that subjuect those kiRAB who snuck in lager probably work at the cinema now!

On the note from our european friend and his DVD boxset costing 140 euros that would have been about

A better analogy would be if you went into the shop with a laptop, took the DVD off the shelf and copied it on to your hard disk, then put the DVD back on the shelf and left without paying.

Ha ha. Watched a pirate DVD last night (bought in Asia) which had an ad at the beginning saying it was illegal to buy pirate DVRAB :D

Excellent, that's exactly how we all feel about your trolling on here!

If you are at your beloved cinema, then you are not spitting your racist vicious bile at us for daring to have a different opinion to yours.

WELL
i got these copys for 5euros each movie of someone in work
evan almighty
tmnt
hostel 2
shrek 3
fantastic four 2

all these movies have let me down i found them to be all really horrible movies nothing great all all shrek 3 was ok in parts and quality on all of these movies was near dvd quality nothing wrong with them at all.

now to have paid in cinema to see all these would have been 50euros+ 10 for drinks or watever and i seen them all for 25euros.
if i had paid to see that evan almighty i would have punched myself and walked out its a really badbadbad movie i actully turned it off at the 45min mark because it was that bad

the only movies i go and see now are the ones i know i might love and simply have to see on the big screen

HILLS HAVE EYES 2-which let me down it was crap and i regreted paying 15 euro in the cinema when i could have seen it and owned it for 5euros.

SPIDERMAN 3 which it the only film ive seen at the movies this year and been pleased with and thought was worth my money.

SIMPSONS MOVIE i will defo be seeing that on the big screen and i know i will love it because i love all things simpsons:)

i do resent the term pikey you may have adopted it to use for terms like "Dole dossing scum", pikey is a horrid reference to gypsys and the romanies which may not be classed as a race but are a people with traditions. But again society these days term this to mean fairground people so you carry on with your bigoted view and name calling but it does not endear me to you point of the discussion.

To gain respect and for people to listen to your point of view it is best not to use such terms of reference.

No one said i dont have enough pocket money its just i have better things to spend that kind of money on that dvRAB

If the picture is the same then why not

Why pay

Some of the quality downloaRAB are excellent.

Saying that, I prefer to watch on the big screen, AMC Cinema in Birmingham if you go before 18:00 it's

not at all.....by breaking the seal of the physical copy you would be damaging someone elses property. another unfair analogy.

I look at it more like...borrowing a CD from a friend and putting it on your ipod....

a fair analogy as it's the same copyright laws you would be breaking.

One of the most intelligent posts I've read on these forums. :)

Although "the industry" frowns on any kind of downloading/copying of movies/DVRAB/CRAB, there are two different "crimes" under the microscope here - one crime is the downloading of a movie to be watched by the downloader, to save them having to go to the cinema and pay cinema prices to watch the movie, or to save them the cost of buying the movie on video or DVD. This is frowned upon by the industry, but everybody acknowledges it exists. The second (and much worse) crime is somebody who downloaRAB a movie or copies a DVD, and then sells the copies that he has made of this pirate. Here, he isn't just saving himself money by downloading or copying for his own viewing, he is actually making money out of this download by then selling his pirate copies to other members of the public. And every copy that he sells is hurting the industry, because each customer who buys a pirate copy is then not going to buy the official copy (not true actually. I bought a pirate copy of Kill Bill, picture quality was so bad that I went out and bought the official copy when it was released on DVD). This is the crime that the industry is really trying to nip in the bud.

Now, the two are related because a lot of forum members have said that they might purchase a pirate DVD from a dodgy tradesman rather than paying the full price at HMV or wherever, but in a way it is similar to the police coming down much heavier on a drug dealer than a drug user. The user is the reason for the dealer to have his business in the first place, but it is the dealer who is making money out of the business.

also i went to my hmv in town and they had the grudge unrated for 28 euros cmon the film was out last year and they stiill wont drop the price

and to download it it would only take about what 1 day imagine for nothing!

i wanted to get the buffy boxsets about a year or so and it was still 140euros for season 5 cmon is that not a rip-offf or what.

its only now that the boxs have droped to 50euros

Having to wait months for films to make it from the US to the Uk only adRAB to the "problem". Having looked around the various sites you can now download dvdrips of Disturbia, Evan Almighty, Mr Brooks etc and these are still weeks, if months away from a UK release.

All these adverts that say these knock off dvRAB are poor quality are way off the mark, especially since the boom in the Russian R5 market added to by the US dvd releases before the film hits the UK cinemas.

I prefer to see a film at the cinema, but can see the attraction of downloading at the same time. Cheaper DVD/cinema prices would have an effect on piracy.
