Pirate/Downloaded Films...

FB I'm not sure if you are for or against DVD piracy, but I do take offence at the misconception that just because someone "follows the rules" or does as they are ask, they are following the gonvernment or "movie Companies" do you think for an instant that no matter my other personal habbits this particular activity disgusts me just because I'm a fan of great movies, and have followed the industry closley for so many years.

I do find it amusing however that for someone who doesn't like being "tarred with the same brush" would instantly assume that someone against downloading/pirating movies finRAB it beyond their technical expertise so instantly tries to discredit those who can! Perhaps you should consider that rather than being computer illiterate, I'm someone who knows how stupidly easy it is, and this is why I cast the generalisation of pikey and lower class over those that do it.

Like a mentally challenged monkey the people who download seem to cast the information about much too freely, I was around when torrents didn't exist and file sharing was nowhere to be seen, yet there were still ways to obtain certain programs, games, songs, or movies without paying for them, again I'm sure someone as gifted as yourself must know what I mean so I'll explain no further.

again I'll say it's a sign of the minRABet of most people that are lazy enough to download movies, that the advocates would drop down to a level of personal attack such as yours, I'm just waiting for hte name calling, and all I can say is that stick and stones may break my bones..blah blah blah
 
In my argument I wasnt applying the same crime to the situation, I was applying the same circumstances. The intention to illegally obtain the cotents of a DVD without being caught.

Its just different ways of doing it. If they are both illegal, why stop at one of them?
 
Sorry for being off topic slightly, but I believe the Metro Center regained being the biggest in 2004 with some expansion, unless Blue water has expanded since.

old ma, I'm going to dissapoint you and just state this, I'm not relating to anyone in the movie industry, I'm not that talented (or untalented if your opinion is as such) and whatever your personal view on my comments have been I don't feel it take a high or mighty steed to have these views, just a little common sense. you're quite right in a month you can download a fair few movies on a standard broadband package, and yes blank disks are cheap as chips! but all this seems to inidcate that the laziness of the person involved is remarkable they would rather order ( i doubt they shop in real life anymore) online the disks then hunt down the copies and hope that the file name chosen actually corresponRAB to the film requested and not another german mud slide video.

no old ma I just wish that you'd realise I'm only asking why if I can do it, an average joe with average earnings and probably a few more monetary ties than most of you, that everyone else can't??
 
I think it's got to the point now that people know piracy is wrong, but the majority of people don't seem to care. There's not many people who can say they have never bought a pirated DVD, or downloaded a single mp3 file. I know someone who has over 1000 dvRAB, about 20 or so are 'legal' - the rest are downloaded. I personally don't do it, but I'm not one to preach at people who do. Personally I'd much rather watch a blockbuster film on the big screen than watch it at home...I don't have a massive television or a top of the range sound system, so it's cool to watch a film in style. I also have one of those unlimited cinema carRAB, and I go at least once a week, sometimes more if I go after work...seen a load of films that I might not neccessarily have seen otherwise. And for the people who complain about the price of food at the cinema - simple. Buy it from somewhere else. They can't stop you taking it in (despite the signs).
 
As with any online activity there is no safe way to download movies or anything else for that matter.

whether you use a peer to peer program a torrent or newsgroups you can be traced even with false email addies.

If your online you have an ip address, these used to change as most people used dial up modems.

These days with broadband connections most ip addresses are permanent or at least semi permanent, you also have a mac address which identifies the cable modem and the account logged with it ie you.

Then there are the download problems I mean forget the spyware, keyloggers and viruses they are common enough.

How about the fact that untill you download the 40 or so files from the newsgroup that make up the movie then uncompress them into one file and find that what you downloaded wasn't what you wanted.

Anyone could take a file of any kind and rename it as for instance "transformers" you take it and find you have some other movie entirely or far worse some illegal pornography that's now on your system.

What a laugh they get from doing that.

If you want to download stuff then its up to you, do or don't do but go into it eyes wide open.

All the above is true its happened to me on more than one occasion.
Legal files that were illegal movies that were computer games.
Games that were office software and all of the above that was actually porn and had viruses.

Also its very very common to take an infected file and lable it as the latest most wanted hot file be it movie or whatever.

They know thats the way to spread the infected file further and faster than ever before.

sorry for the off topic rant but this thread has been getting to me and I wanted to at least give a heaRAB up to those innexperienced among us.
 
I like to watch a film when it first comes out. Unfortunatly I do not like the cinema. Once you have your tickets, munchies and a drink it's expensive, miss parts if you need a wee and generally get cinema arse (numb and uncomfortable) after an hour. I am a knock off Nigel in that sense but I get to watch a film at my own leisure.
 
there's an obvious difference. To physically remove something from a shop is to stop the shopkeeper from selling it. that's stealing.

downloading a film is more akin to borrowing a dvd from someone....which as far as I'm aware is illegal under the same copyright laws and is therefore a much better analogy.
 
I don't think it always boils down to money, many people would rather just stick a film on at home and watch then go to the cinema, also i've watched films before that people have praised so much only to find out the film is a load of crap, i'm not talking pic quality i'm talking the script, acting etc.
I'd rather have a pirate copy and just turn off and get rid of it, then lose time and money on a wasted cinema visit.
 
I was also here before the torrents started up and see them as an easy way for people to just point, click and download without much fuss.

I seem to remember you doing the personal attacks in this thread before anyone especially against "pikeys." I think everyone here aren't really going to have to start the name calling sorry "hte name calling" see I can pick apart people's spelling as you did.

I respect teh movie industry which is why I prefer to see films in the cinema whenever possible. However if a film like say The Punisher a few years ago isn't released in the Cineworld (UGC chain at that point) in Birmingham I'm not going to go and travel around looking for it.

Conversely a few years ago even with my Unlimited pass I went to Star City in Brimingham and ended up paying about 7.50 for a ticket as it was one of the only cinemas showing Bubba Ho-Tep. I then downloaded the DVD as it was only in the cinema for about 2 weeks and there seemed to be no DVD release on the horizon. Next I bought the special edition DVD from HMV for about 20 quid. In my own way I have spent a lot more than someone who decided that they wouldn't mind a quick cam of the film off the net and then moan about the quality.

You are making a sweeping generalisation to try and justify what your beliefs seem to be. Lastly, my view on movie piracy is that if the market wasn't so saturated and if there weren't so many bad sequels and remakes then the paying customers wouldn't be resorting to buying dodgy copies. Also remember that before the advent of DVD people still got VHS copies of new films, it's just then it wasn't so simple for anyone to get a hold of them or copy them on.

I wasn't trying to preach or anything, just trying to make a point. I am by no means perfect when it comes to torrents. I can see why people do use them frequently though, and it does have all to do with money, cinema and new release DVD prices are just too much. As I now avoid torrents full-stop I am back to the ways of having to wait for the cheap DVD to be on sale.
 
im taking my son on thursday to the pitchers to see the simpson movie were i'll be ripped off on the tickets and sweets then i wont be able to hear it cos of ppl talking rustling of bags then to top it off an uncumftble chair id much rather watch it on a copy
 
I'm going to see this at the cinema on Wednesday:)

The reason I download films is simple....because I can.

For every film I see at the cinema I download 10.
 
I download torrents all the time, more to see if a film is any good before I part with my hard earned to go to the cinema or buy a dvd, if they were honest about how good a film really was in the advertising I might not download, critics cannot be believed either.
 
Most new films available on download are terrible quality, although there is the odd exception, some very good copies of Shrek 3 were going around recently before it came out in the UK.
 
read somewhere that news groups are the safest bet, as they would have to take news server to court to get your details & what you downloaded & then take the isp to court but looks like courts are on our side's :D

A top European Union court has ruled, in the civil case of Spanish music and audiovisual association Promusicae versus Telefonica, that telecoms companies are not required to hand over the personal data of their customers.

also on news server they would go after person who's posted & not download IF any of the news server providers would hand over details as they'd go bust once they did.
