We don't really travel. When we did do it, it was either to visit the
in-laws or for cross country moves. For a time when we visited the in-laws,
there was a place for us to stay. But then there wasn't. We had no choice
but to stay in the one motel there was in that area.
For cross country moves we were never really sure how far we would go in a
day. Of course we could estimate, but sometimes we found a place to stop
along the way. I just got AAA books for every state we were going through.
I would then map out approx. where I thought we would be around dinner time
and highlight all the places that looked good and took pets in the cities
and towns that would be around there. This almost always worked for me.
Once in a while a place would change hands and either the quality went
downhill, the prices went way up or they no longer took pets.
One place was really horrid. It in Wyoming. We were told that what
happened was the person who owned the motel also bought the motel that was
behind it. That is the one we were put in. It was very run down. Maui
(the cat) got into something really nasty that was under the bed. She stunk
to high heaven! She really needed a bath. But there was no time because we
were on our way out when we managed to fish her out from under the bed. I
do travel with baby wipes so we used those on her. It was better than
nothing. Nowadays they make pet wipes. If I ever had to travel with a pet
again I would for sure bring those!
The soda machine also wasn't working. I did manage to get some soda out of
it but it was very hot. This was in the summer. And there was no ice
machine! Or refrigerator. I rarely ever stay in a place with no fridge.
But my husband insisted on staying there because the AAA book said it was a
ghost town. I think when he read this he conjured up some image in his mind
like Frontierland or something. But what they really meant was that pretty
much everyone had packed up and left! There was a college there so there
were businesses that would appeal to college kids. Like fast food and video
arcades. But not much else.
And to top it all off there was the most hideous thunderstorm that hit that
night. Had it not been raining so hard I would have trekked out in search
of cold beverages. Instead we made do with a quick dinner at Hooters and
then went back to our horrid room.
Thankfully most of the places we've stayed at have been very nice.
