OT to all you haters

We don't really travel. When we did do it, it was either to visit the
in-laws or for cross country moves. For a time when we visited the in-laws,
there was a place for us to stay. But then there wasn't. We had no choice
but to stay in the one motel there was in that area.

For cross country moves we were never really sure how far we would go in a
day. Of course we could estimate, but sometimes we found a place to stop
along the way. I just got AAA books for every state we were going through.
I would then map out approx. where I thought we would be around dinner time
and highlight all the places that looked good and took pets in the cities
and towns that would be around there. This almost always worked for me.
Once in a while a place would change hands and either the quality went
downhill, the prices went way up or they no longer took pets.

One place was really horrid. It in Wyoming. We were told that what
happened was the person who owned the motel also bought the motel that was
behind it. That is the one we were put in. It was very run down. Maui
(the cat) got into something really nasty that was under the bed. She stunk
to high heaven! She really needed a bath. But there was no time because we
were on our way out when we managed to fish her out from under the bed. I
do travel with baby wipes so we used those on her. It was better than
nothing. Nowadays they make pet wipes. If I ever had to travel with a pet
again I would for sure bring those!

The soda machine also wasn't working. I did manage to get some soda out of
it but it was very hot. This was in the summer. And there was no ice
machine! Or refrigerator. I rarely ever stay in a place with no fridge.
But my husband insisted on staying there because the AAA book said it was a
ghost town. I think when he read this he conjured up some image in his mind
like Frontierland or something. But what they really meant was that pretty
much everyone had packed up and left! There was a college there so there
were businesses that would appeal to college kids. Like fast food and video
arcades. But not much else.

And to top it all off there was the most hideous thunderstorm that hit that
night. Had it not been raining so hard I would have trekked out in search
of cold beverages. Instead we made do with a quick dinner at Hooters and
then went back to our horrid room.

Thankfully most of the places we've stayed at have been very nice.

And did I say I will get a decent retirement? No. But there will be
something. Certainly not nearly as much money as my husband will get next
year after he has his 30 years in the military.

Not necessarily. I don't stay at a lot of hotels of late. But we did stay
at one for Angela's slumber party and they required a credit card. So does
the Seattle Westin where we will be staying for the dance convention.

I have been told that the reason for this is that they might find damages or
other things they can charge you for after you check out. I don't know if
this is true or not.

We shall see. The last time I had the rental car it was because my van was
in the shop. Apparently as a 2001 the parts are already obsolete. So they
had to send out to a tool shop to have some parts tooled just for it. Gah!

Currently there are two recalls on it, but... I was told they do not have
some of the parts yet. I have to wait about a week to get it in there. And
I hope it can get fixed in one day. Otherwise I will be renting again.
But... This time if I have to rent because of the recall, Ford will pay for
the rental.

My dad used to carry those when they came to visit us in CA some 8 to 12
years ago. They found very few places would cash them any more. They
finally gave up and wound up turning them back into the bank for cash.

Thanks! I didn't mean to imply that everyone here is mean. Certainly not.
But I felt I had to say something because I literally could not make replies
to what they are saying about it. Had I just let it go they would be saying
something like... Oh look! Look at her now! She must be crying or
something. Too ashamed to reply to our posts. Or... Who knows. Who knows
what they think. Certainly not me. My brain doesn't work that way.

Here is the meaning of pseudonym for your edification. You will see that
it more accurately befits the usage posters here in RFC and elsewhere
make of it.

From Wikipedia;

A pseudonym (literally, "false name") is a name that a person (or,
sometimes, a group) assumes for a particular purpose and that differs
from his or her original orthonym (or 'true name').[1] They include
stage names, noms de plume, aliases, anagrams, Graecisms, Latinisations,
mystifications, nicknames, and names or orders or popes.[2]

Pseudonyms are often used to hide an individual's real identity, as with
writers' pen names, graffiti artists' tags, resistance fighters' or
terrorists' noms de guerre, and computer hackers' handles. Actors,
musicians, and other performers sometimes use stage names, for example,
to mask their ethnic backgrounds. Stage names are also used as something
that better matches their stage personae, as in the case of hip hop
artists such as Ol' Dirty Bastard (who was known under at least six
aliases); black metal performers such as Nocturno Culto; and hardcore
punk singers such as "Rat" of Discharge. Employers sometimes require
employees to use assigned names to help sell products; for example, a
company that does business mostly in one country but locates a call
center in another country may require its employees to assume names
common in the former country in an effort to draw a more positive or
less negative reaction from current and/or prospective customers.
