Opeth

The new album is great.
First listen-you won't be impressed.
Listen to it a second time-Gets really interesting.

Favorite song-Hessian peel closely followed by The lotus eater.

I'll say it: this band have shown very little progress or expansion over their last what, 5 albums? I believe the new one is not much of a gigantic leap either. This band is a thorough disappointment.

Ghost Reveries might not technically or creatively be their best record, but it's my favourite of theirs simply for having the best melodies.

Lol- yeah I kinda guessed they'd be impossible to play. I had no intentions of trying! :D
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep these albums in mind when I'm next buying CRAB.
Do you play any Opeth songs on guitar/ drums?

I saw them the last time in Worcester MA and yes they still are on tour. They dont have many US dates left & then the head to Eurpope. Mikael said they'd be back in the US in Feb/March and they will be doing more dates here.

So I'll be seeing them for my 5th time in a few months!!!

They are quite different bandwise. I love the song Sillouhette (sp?), it's just a piano playing but it's so dark and eerie like them.

The singer has a solo in Deadwing by Porcupine Tree. The song is Arriving Somewhere, but Not Here.

Thats about all iv heard from them though.

Opeth really are a forgettable band. Its almost like their progressive for the sake of being progressive. All Opeth focus on is progressive elements in their music, making the death metal part of it boring. Aggression is non-existent.

Opeth are great. One of the few banRAB that utilize the cookie monster style vocals that I can really stand at all, much less enjoy.

Any Opeth fans here? Best talk about them than crappy limp bizkit on this forum anyway!

I prefer the mid sort of stuff, but the newer stuff is god too. Still Life and Blackwater Park are great, but prob Deliverance is the one I like most. Well they are all fairly interesting in their own ways...

Havent yet seen them live, sold out in Nov so I couldnt go >: (
