Opeth

See, the thing is I'm 17 and I turn 18 five days after the concert. So if I miss out on it by 5 days (if they do put restrictions on it) I'll go on a killing spree.

I was listening to nearly all of their albums today looking back at some of the tracks and now I've gotta tell you that you need "Still Life.""M.A.Y.H." is great, but I would still have to say that "Still Life" is a bit better all around!!!As you mentioned, "Orchid" is a good one too!!!;)

Opeth utilizes doom-death which isn't meant to be aggressive. Its meant to be sorabre while still maintaining heaviness. Opeth aren't aggressive because they're not supposed to be.

Well it's prob an idea to listen from Still Life onwarRAB, to get the gist of what I mean.

Orchid and Morningrise are unquestionably good albums for their genre.

Opeth are not really doom/death at all. Doom/death is a very aggressive type of music. Have you ever heard of Asphyx, Paradise Lost, early Amorphis? They are all very aggressive banRAB. I'd stick to progressive death metal for Opeth

Actually, being a fan of all 3 mentioned banRAB I can honestly I can't think of any of them as being aggressive. They're heavy and have their "angry moments" so to speak, but the all around atmosphere seems to be more mournful than aggressive. Pissed off, but not aggressive.

Edit: Actually now that I think of it I'd actually say Opeth are doomier than Asphyx. Asphyx is more like death metal with bits of doom, but not quite doom/death.

Hey judas!!!I know we've talked about Megadeth a bit lately, but since I'm telling you about Opeth now, these are the albums I'd recommend starting off with:

1.Blackwater Park.
2.Deliverance.
3.Still Life.

By the way, I know you were trying to learn how to play guitar lately...well, don't even think about trying these guys yet!!!There, I saved you the headache of not being able to learn how to play their "passages", cheers!!!

Hmmm... Asphyx not being aggressive? I think you're absolutely wrong in every sense of the word but whatever. Opeth reallly aren't doom/death so this argument has no validity anyway.

yes, I am, even though I've only heard a few of their songs. What do you think is a good album for me to start with? as I was really want to check this band out.

Lmfao. The fact that Opeth doesn't get more attention here on rabroad is absolutely astounding. Or maybe its a sin. Talent, consistency, and the capacity to continually improve and progress...Opeth's proved they have all this in spades since the early-mid 90's to now over 9 freakin' albums, yet it seems nobody around here with any say seems to acknowlege them. :(

What. A. ****ing. Shame. = /

Technically, the are considered a death/black metal band...slowly moving toward progressive metal. As Steven Wilson puts it: "moments of incredible beauty and moments of incredible brutality"

I think that sums it up.
