*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

$700 is a huge price tag? So what is $650?

I was prepared to buy the N97 when we were expecting a $1000 price point. But then again my money is long.

The INNOV8 had an 8MP camera too and it was crap but its Samsung so you'd be stupid just for expecting anything let alone anything good.

I bought from Brando for my 5800 and it has a cut out for the sensor so it is not covered. They are in HK so it took a while but it is an excellent screen protector.
It was like 6-7 bucks and about 10 with shipping.

I bought a couple actually since I am bad when it comes to put these things one, same with condoms :)

Roger, many of the vids from CES showed all these inputs. CES was in January and since then Nokia has removed a number of these input options and they won't be in the initial production release.

Enough with that track record!!

Some guy posted already saying looking at Nokia's track record that they will not a announce a phone today..

What's this? Chinese Feng Shui?

Sorta off topic but there's a picture of the new tablet homescreen that just came out:

You can only see the blue portion on the screen when actually using the device but lookie, multiple pages for widgets. I wish they'd do this on the N97

i dunno man, i'm finding the 5800 is just as fast as any other s60 device i've used. it installs apps particularly fast, loads the music library fast, etc.

i think people are just bashing it because they didnt feel comfortable with it within the first 2 hours because they are used to Dpad phones.

after the first few days i now prefer s60v5 and it really is easier to use, and its plenty fast. people are bashing it without using it for a week. my first Dpad s60 phone took me a week to learn to like it also. just gotta give it that chance.

Aside from the obvious OS differences, can someone tell me the big differences between this and the HTC Touch Pro? Please do keep in mind all I have owned in unlocked phones have been made by Nokia.

whoa, that guy was playing Guitar Hero. (or "guitar rock hero" by Gameloft, lol)

not exactly a showcase for graphics, and it was was kind of slow (maybe early level?) but interesting use of the touch screen for gaming.

Are you kidding? Every board I checked had speculation on N97 being $800-1000 on launch. The price is only going to go down.

Eldar also notes that the entry price is much cheaper than expected. They did that by not buffing up some specs that probably need to be buffed. But even sr doesn't think it's a simple hardware issue, but a firmware one (similar to how Eric noted that N96 was essentially unusable until firmware 20). Is it a high price? Sure, for alot of capability above that of both N95 and XM. It's incremental increase for sure.

Right, but OLED isn't new. And 8mp isn't new. Putting them together is synthesis, not innovation, isn't it? Otherwise, isn't it just as fair to give N97 credit for putting 3.5" touch screen (resistive or no), 32GB, 5mp, and QWERTY all together in one package with AT&T NAM 3G? Anyone here could have an iPod, point and shoot, dumb phone, tablet PC, etc that destroy those points individually but they're now carrying multiple devices.

N97 is only getting cheaper from this point on. I'm not saying the Omnia is crap and it's certainly a valid choice, but you're also sacrificing more than just the 850 band, but also QWERTY and more than a few GB of storage to get your grip on that beautiful screen and great camera features, thus losing out on the music and texting preferences of others.

On iPhone 128MB is not sufficient for MT. At all. So they need the extra RAM. But it seems that even Nokia needs it now hence the new Out-of-Memory Monitor API.

True screen res isn't great for that size screen but it is 3.5" and bigger than the N97 screen by a hair. I did the math in another post.
