*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Ok, this is ridiculous, Fedex has my package in the local facility and won't deliver today because "Package not due for delivery" so they will keep it there for 24 hours only to wait for the third day of 3-day shipping.... That's insanely stupid I must say... and I don't have time to pick it up so I won't even bother calling.

I see your point, but the applets that run on the home screen are not full web pages and the S60 browser isn't started to get the updates. It's just a quick connection to download a few kB of data to display on the home screen. If you've ever used the N810 you would see what I mean here. I have several applets that just sit and update their necessary data without bogging down the CPU from RSS feed reader to weather app. These are not data intensive apps. Picture the Facebook/MySpace applets as little RSS feed apps that just download headlines or major happenings. Then you can log in to get all the juicy details if you're so inclined.

Maybe WidSets is a better comparison. Picture the N97 home screen as WidSets where you can decide which widgets you want to plug in and get data for. The actual amount of data is very small and would hardly tax the processor. Actually, if there was that much of a tax on the processor the battery life would surely suffer and I don't think anyone would expect this phone to last half a day with the mighty BP-4L in it. :)

My theory is .. more number of posts, higher the price those folks are willing to pay ;) So, you are inline with my theory :D

I wish Nokia alteast put 8MP cam in this phone to make it bit more attractive. Even then it is not worth more than $600. N86 is totally a joke.. another slider with same specs as N85/N96 with 3MP more :disappoin

LOL, Ill get right on it.
All joking aside, I am so happy that this thing has shipped - Now I can relax - I was actually considering buying an xperia to hold me until the n97 was official announced. But I am good now.

im also excited that people are starting to get them, just waiting now for it to come out in UK, i hate waiting. ^ nice pics btw :buddies:

Honestly there is no reason to have an N-series in a post iPhone or Pre or Onmia HD world. Also watch that Samsung l7500. There's a 5MP camera on that also.

There are so many high-end options this year.

Thanks for the tip sr1329, but I'm not a newb to the term of dual-cpu that Nokia and other manufacturers have used some time.

Nokia has contracts with 7 yes 7 cpu manufacturers over the past 4yrs. And has continued with 3 of them recently. I've partipated in this thread for a bit myself just not so often the past 4wks. but I'll give it a read, tomorrow.

Why is that? Pay attention to your typing on your device next time you're typing a message. I don't know about you but I always use my right thumb to hit the space bar. In fact if you look at the space bar on my computer keyboard there is a wear mark where only my right thumb hits it. I think it will take a bit to get used to but it's the perfect place for it honestly since it is likely the most pressed key on the keyboard (well, for some folks;)) and my thumb not having to travel to the middle of the board should only help typing.

Well the iPhone 3G and the Bold were coming out anyway and as soon as I found out that HTC was building the X1 for SE I knew they would have something comparable up its sleeve (Touch Pro). I think the real reason we are all upset about this announcement coming 7 months in advance is because we can't all go out and buy one right now.

That's what I'm talking about. Although the N96 is the worst of them all, the N85, N79, and 5800XM all suffer the same lagging issue due to not having the hardware acceleration.

looks like all those people in the video have used internet for the first time on their phone! even worst then iphone's ad.

so before these engineer's had a cosmic realization (by making n97),where were they when 5800 was made?

Im with you as far as qwerty goes but the the specs via the guru again are"in a 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9mm package, a package slightly taller and wider but thinner than the N82!"

Now that just gets my skin crawling with excitement.
