a little while ago in this thread you guys were talking about if there is the standard t9 keypad on the n97 just like the 5800. here's a video showing the different input methods on n97, which does include all the same on-screen inputs as the 5800. i'm sure this is an old video we've all seen. but it clears it up.

i am really liking the n97, looks solid build and higher quality. i just feel like i would be wasting money though, unless it really drops in price. feels like i get so much more for my money with a 5800 which has 85% of the stuff the n97 has. just missing camera and widgets and bigger screen, and qwerty if that's your thing. its a tough call. i'd really like to hear some reviews of the call quality and loudspeaker quality of n97, and music playback thru speakers.

while i agree that current phones multi task well, try and load 3-4 web pages, and update them all simultaneously. or run 4 "data-intensive" apps that all need to use the data connection at the same time. this bogs down the CPU. that was my concern with the home screen using data from 4 different independent locations.
 
I really wish it were. The E-series touch when it comes out in one or two years may be what we are waiting for.

But I look forward to reading your impressions of the phone when it comes out.
 
Lets remember that over the years nokia has continually made such weird and unexplainable feature and design choices that its insane some of them. So this cpu choice really doesn't deviate from this trend all that much. It doesn't make sense to get this caught up with the cpu when stuff like call log bug, no open window in web browser, lack of firmware nam updates, horrible built in email app, on and on etc. Doesn't make it right, but us nokia fans have been dealing with this stupid crap forever. I'm still interested in n97 for its battery, camera, screen etc.

Those things don't disappear because the cpu is not next generation.

When I first got my N95-3 and the "extra" navigation package I was honestly staggered by how loud and clear the map GPS announcements were! So clear there is no need to put it through the car's stereo with a cable!

Does anyone know if the N97's speakers will be as clear and as loud as the N95-3's?

They do look smaller in every photo I've seen of the N97 but that's not always a true indicator of clarity and volume.

And so you admit that the N97 won't benefit from newer hardware. Then what's the problem? Sometimes you just gotta roll with it...

Nokia's flagship this time (N97) and last time (N96) I admit aren't the leader of the pack like when the N95 came out, but it's still good enough. Maybe next time they'll have the best spec'd phone. :2thumbs:
 
Damn!! The whole rounded WEB 2.0 ish feel on the N97 is really not something I was looking forward to either. The battery surely sucks still (from what I have heard). Touch screen is fine and smooth but personally I think it could have been better.

All in all it surely brings the new generation tech when you carry it in your pocket. Hopefully, after the firmware updates there will be some improvements in terms of bugs and sensitivity.
 
It wasn't a flagship and it was just a refresh of the N95. It fits fine in Nokia's lineup.

I personally would prefer an N97 over a netbook, or even an E90 as I don't see the need to carry around a mini laptop. It's useful for college students, notetaking, and as a PC for HD streaming and video to tvs. I wonder what's going to happen in the next few years-everything could start merging.
