*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

@aironeous

I would be absolutely amazed if Nokia, Samsung or even SE give any devcie a new OS, updates and new firmwares with fixes of course. I even doubt they will add new features unless of course maybe they mean a few more WRT Widgets. Maybe after all this time they will actually get round to fixing the very simple and very annoying call log bug which they still haven't managed to do in a yet another version of S60 and that's been around for how long now? Your faith in what Nokia says they are going to do is disproportionate to what they actually do IMO but hey good luck who knows maybe this time they actually will, although personally i seriously doubt it.

Apple got sued because their commercials were faster than the iphone in real life.

Not only are these commercials 10x faster than the actual device, there's no way it can do those transitions. :rolleyes: I can't even think of a handheld device with that quality other than the tegra platforms which aren't even in consumer devices yet.

My concern is that there may be many S60 apps that will not work well with the N97. I love the idea of having apps that update live info on the standby screen, but how many software creators will cater to one phone. I'm sure that over time there will be more phones that support this, but I would guess that there will be many applications that will not support this for a year or more. There are already a lot of 3rd edition apps that do not work well with the touchscreen interface on the 5800 XM. I love my gadgets, but I may have to wait and see on this one to make sure it is at least on par with my N95-4.

From the Symbian-Freak review:
"I did't like the color at all. it wasn't the charcoal black I was hoping for.
It was more of dark greyish than the glossy charcoal black.
The black color feels like it was washed out unfortunately."

For me it is white or nothing. you can always replace the casing if it gets dirty.

You actually like HTC's keyboards? I feel sorry for you. I like the HTC keyboards as much as I like the one on my N810, which is to say not very much. Nokia did much wrong going HTC style on that one.

I never had that bad of an experience with Winmo, until the Touch Pro.

Regardless, I think the N97 will be my next TC phone....the widgets seem promising after I saw what Nokia has done with them on the All About Symbian site. Having the weather panel (Accu Weather) and stock index (Bloomberg) will be so nice and convenient. That was my only disappointment with the 5800 since you couldn't have the contact bar and all your calendar entries on the same screen.

Was wondering something. Do you think early announcements and then delays are just a card nokia plays to increase the hype, so that when it does drop ya'll don't think about the expensive-ness of what your doing. Just caught up in the hype.
Also, kinda curious how much someone would be willing to pay for the latest and greatest from nokia or anybody for that matter. I recall "greenteeth" I think it was he who paid around $1500 to be the first to get the E90 a couple years back. I picked it up myself paying just over a grand after it had been out a couple weeks or so. It wasn't worth that, and I'll never pay that again for any phone. So how much of your hard earned cash are you willing to part with?
