*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Palm Eos but it won't be first. How I want to try the Samsung 7500, also wont be first.

I suspect the new iPhone will get announced and have immediate availability probably in June. Those Apple guys have a release schedule that runs like clockwork. Multitasking on the iPhone and its sayonara Nokia.

Been using the 3.0 OS on the iPhone and new betas come out every 2 weeks like clockwork and Beta 5 was even early by 5 days.

It is amazing, between server search and spotlight and intelligent entry of contact names when in calendar and how it shows the company name with your contacts it has used technology to overcome the weaknesses of a touch screen in ways that are so innovative and thoughtful that I feel they deserve my custom.

This week copy and paste has improved so that it shows a zoom box on the part where you are starting or ending the copy selection. It is brilliant. The things they put on it are so forward thinking and innovative. Not like this joker showing off swiping motion and kinetic scroll. It is such an obvious thing to put on a modern phone that no one has a name for it, but Nokia had to publicize a name for it keeping in line with their "hype word" strategy. The hype words make nerds wet between the legs.

I was randomly looking at pictures of the N97 when I noticed some keypads differ from one another. I was at the N97 release party at Marquee and could not find the damn period (.). Maybe I was drunk, but I thought it was by the letter "M"? Anyway, here are two photo's to demonstrate what I'm referring to.

This photo is from GSMarena, as you can see the "period" is on the same key as the letter "M".

Here's another random photo I just googled, and the period is no longer there :befuddled

so I was just curious to find out which is the right keypad?

Wait what? That doesn't follow transitivity.. just because we prefer handwriting recognition to a small keyboard doesn't mean that we prefer handwriting recognition to a big keyboard, especially since the keyboards we use with our computers are often supplemented with software to provide the massive Chinese alphabet at our fingertips.

Sounds like you were missing their call and/or have a bum number?

If it's too an address that differs from the billing address, they need to voice verify that with you. They called me (at my billing number for my CC) on both preorders and removed the hold after I verified by information.

That's a good point. Apple announces a release date, and they are almost always on time. Even Palm announced a release date for the Pre. Why can't Nokia, the number one mobile phone maker in the world, announce a release date and deliver?

Yes you do need help, I'm here to help, it will save you the trouble of banging the head on the wall!

Pre order the phone(s) again and simply ship it to me. LOL :hehehe: Trust me, it feels good to donate :2thumbs:

Just reading the N97 manual, about half way through so far (no, i don't normally read manuals, but I was REALLY bored). I've noticed a couple of things that are different to the 5800 that some of you might like the sound of:

1. You can mark contacts as "favourites" which means that they'll always show up at the top of the contacts list. Very usefull if you call or text the same few people frequently since you no longer have to scroll through every contact that you have stored.

2. In the gallery view, the middle button at the bottom of the screen (a pencil icon on the 5800) is now a tick, and it lets you mark items! So now you don't have to go to Options > Mark/Unmark > Mark

Anyway, thats whats jumped out so far.
Little things, I know. But little things can make a big difference :)

Because for some reason they decided to limit the keyboard rows to three so the spacebar in the middle would put it between the B and N keys. How many would complain about that?
