*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Is this something that happens often ? they fake the screen quality on their videos in order to sell more phones ? sounds like it should be illegal !

Yeah that's the only reason I consider MobileCity ever. For all their issues with online sales, they were decent to me in my dealings with them in a "retail" sale with them. The first unit was defective and they did replace it the next day, but I found the amount of testing and checking they did to verify that I did indeed have a hardware fault with the phone was a little annoying.

They probably sold my defective N95-3 to some poor online buyer though.

I think you are really stretching it by saying that people who need multiple pages of widgets are a "niche". I could understand if widgets were solely things like facebook/twitter/etc but now that basic things like e-mail/calendar/to-do/shortcuts/contacts are widgets, I don't see requiring more than five widgets as being a niche need.

Great use of that quote from a great movie and you are right, my logic was flawed.

Having OWNED both the N95-3 and N85-1 APAC for quite some time (14 months the former, 5 months the latter concurrently), I assure you it most certainly does not. At least not for Symbian. Not yet.

My N95-3 never outperformed my N85-1 in any application. Both were on even ground. Maybe I wasn't using the right applications? :befuddled

No need to do any convincing - I ordered the phone last night via their website and have a web order number that has the reduced price on it. They're simply honoring what was on the screen. This was NOT an order I placed this morning asking them to price match. Remember, this was a GLITCH in the system.

It's boring watch people constantly coming to a thread about Oranges to say that Oranges sucks and that they prefer Lemons because they are more acids....

Why don't buy Lemons and post how goods are lemons in their own thread or post about why more acid is nicer in the debate thread.

Nah, not really. 'flagship' is Nokia marketing and I don't care if N97 is their top of the line or bottom of the barrel, as long as it offers the feature combination I'm looking for. The rest of the smartphone OS, software, fanc? home screen, widgets, etc is just gravy.

Low RAM is of far more concern to me, especially when RAM is so cheap and easy to get while not being nearly as significant to the software paradigm (ample supply makes it easier for devs and programmers to be lazier while a new CPU/architecture would make it potentially much more difficult, especially if backwards compatibility/emulation is a concern).

I doubt it.. The problem is, M4E sucks at handling security policies from Exchange.. It worked great on my E71, but, my 5800 won't work with our exchange environment.

Yeah I too consider the ram issue more important than the processor.

Features are only one part of the picture though..if the software isn't quick and fluid it just becomes a chore to use.

The ones at Nokia World were very early prototypes where most features didn't even work. Symbian Freak has been covering the N97's designer's video diary and in his videos he is using an N97 that has the same smooth transitions as the video. And even though it's a resistive touchscreen, it doesn't look and act like it. It doesn't appear that he's applying much pressure when dragging around widgets or scrolling thru pictures in the gallery.

Agree. They even did not approve the Slingplayer app. Very stupid. All because AT&T said no.

What about all the owners who are on other carriers around the world? Should they all suffer because one carrier somewhere said no?

All things to think about.

Yup, I've seen this on just about all the N97's I have or used. Unfortunately, something's always gotta give when it comes to the N-Series build quality. Granted, it's pretty minor though.

I've noticed that the "E" and "Q" keys are the most affected by the backlight issue.

You honestly think the n97 can hold its own against all the competition being launched between june and july at its current price point. Nokia's n series hasn't been selling as well as it used to during the past two quarters.

Ps the n97 has mediocre hardware :2thumbs:
