*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

All this talk about so little free ram is getting me worried. Do the RAM figures you guys list include a configuration that has the GPS maps loaded...???

Im worried about having enough space on my N97 to load up on the local maps I need... :wow:

Really? This is the first I've heard this. Seriously, the mediocre hardware horn has been sounded enough, we get the point. Of course some may have missed it, even in your obnoxiously huge sig.

It means you have duplicate entries on your phone memory and/or sim card. Clean them up and the proper name will display. This is very common problem with s60 and getting a new phone because of how the contacts are saved to the sim.

Body i repeatedly leave a web page on the screen by accident and then fall asleep and wake up in the morning 8 hours later with the web page still there bright as day on the screen. And smartlight stopped the screen from going black, and my screen never burnt any image into it. I just did this last night again as matter of fact. Perhaps its some software bug or something?

Widgets are a big deal, a huge deal. A really massively big deal, and I have yet to see anyone here understand why. Who cares if they are on the standby screen, if they are to big, to small it's all irrelevant because that's easy to change.

Here's why they are exciting. My wife who's a sysadmin, not a programmer can sit down and write one. She knows html. css and javascript and can write a widget that will do on the front screen of the phone and do anything. Want twitter almost anyone worthwhile can write one.

To program for Symbian you no longer need to know Symbian C++. This is a big deal.

Update: my amazon order has an estimated delivery date of June 5th - 17th. Slowly narrowing down the date  I assume the range of dates is based off of where you are in the preorder line up.

Here's a bigger breakdown of differences-

N97:
3.5" resistive 640x360 LCD touch screen
5.0mp camera (autofocus, dual-LED flash)
32gb internal memory+microSD slot
Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
Announced for NAM/European/Asian markets

N86:
2.6" 240x320 AMOLED screen
8.0mp camera (28mm lens, autofocus, dual-LED flash)
8gb internal memory+microSD slot
Slide-out T9 keypad (and secondary slide for gaming ala N95)
Only currently announced with triband UMTS for European/Asian markets

Both are running the same processor at the same clock speed.

Doubtful at this point. Perhaps in a few months or a year there will be more Android phones than NITs shipped.

I seem to remember that at least a couple million NITs have shipped since the 770 was released, primarily N800s and N810s.

I'm not sure I'm going to buy a new one, though. While I'd love the N900's upgraded CPU and memory, I don't think I'll like the smaller screen size or the new version of Maemo.

Edited to add: Regardless of numbers, saying Nokia is at fault for Maemo not being compatible with Android is like saying Microsoft is at fault for Windows Mobile not being compatible with PalmOS. Of course, I would have liked it if Nokia had gone with QPE, so there could have been more compatibility between the NITs and the Zaurus SL series.
