*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

where are you in socal? i have very littel problems except the occasional 5pm rush hour overloaded network on the freeways. but that's rare, and i get good web speeds and voice calls are great. texts send and receive instantly with no delay. and i go all over the place with good service. but other's will swear horrible service in and around LA so test it out first. but for the price, cheap 3g data in combo with unlocked nokia phones, att is the best deal going IMO.

512 shipped overnight plus a bluetooth headset is about as fair a price there is i'd say. While it does have it's shortcomings, I'm still excited to see what it can do. Every day I learn something new about S60 and my N95-4 as well. It's an extremely capable platform even if it has been mismanaged in recent years.

It's ridiculous to say that. We've already seen what older phones with better hardware can do and that the newer phones can't do the same without it. The only reason the N97 won't benefit from newer hardware is because developers are going to create applications that use the weaker hardware it already has.

1) you can cancel by calling Brightpoint directly and 2) the official blog said that preorders would get them right off the factory, so it's not inconceivable that we get them quicker. I'm still a bit fearful they'll cancel or correct glitch pricing, though.

Hilarious - a year ago most people making this tupe comment could even spell the world "resistive". Talk about puppets....

The screen spec just fine. Far more inetresting is the quesion of how the rest of the phone will function.

only problem is someone on this forum got to play with one a week ago, and appearently the processor isn't cutting it. And for anybody about to say "this is only a prototype, nokia will get their act together" The phone is set to launch in about three weeks. This is as final as it gets.

It was actually his post that led me to try the triband N85 in the first place and I found out that I am absolutely covered in UMTS 1900 everywhere I normally go. A little research showed that Chicago is also comprised mostly of the 1900 frequency, so I won't have any problems with 3G there either.

By the time AT&T makes the appropriate changes to their 3G network to the point where it's more 850 than 1900, I'm sure we'll all have gone through 3 different phones by then anyway.

I'm a firm believer that the $500 price is the only acceptable price for the N97. $700 for a device like it given the competition available and coming soon is way too much.

The guy who claimed to be the senior technical designer(?) claimed that the second screen will be blank. He was so excited to show it off but I guess he didn't realize the point of having a blank screen. When the guy asked him about it he kind of defended it by saying "that's how it is".

I thought it was funny, but more than funny it was stupid.
