*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Very true. I have an AT&T account and have been using unlocked phones for the past few years.

Despite my E71-2 and upcoming white N97 being unlocked, it would be unfortunate to have to go through any Ovi Store inconvenience due to the fault of AT&T.

Really? Contacts has always taken at least 5 seconds to load whenever I open it (probably because of how many are in there) but it literall opens in 1 second now. Weird.

Whatever enough about iphones nobody can answer the free ram question?

Let's not start this again. I'm sure the last 30 pages or so have had enough on the topic of RAM and CPU. It's not gonna change no matter what we say and there are not 1.2 billion Chinese people currently working on a RAM/ROM swap LOL

i cant believe that the 5800 has more free RAM than the n97!! but this doesnt bother me, i wont be using any widgets that connect to the web. I'll use standard app shortcuts, contacts, and maybe i'll leave 1 widget there on the homescreen, but i will manually use the app when i need to.

with this setup i imagine the RAM should mimick the 5800. the 5800 doesnt do too bad opening up 3 or 4 MAJOR apps. though that's about its limit i would say, anything more is pushing it.

I watch things on my lunch break. So 30-45 minutes depending on how long it takes me to eat and whether I chit-chat with coworkers or go back to my office to watch something. If he commutes to and from work on public transit that would be another ideal time.

Doesn't it make you sad that the cheap end phones will run faster than the flagship which could use the extra speed more than the e55?

I mean I can understand that this phone has been in the works for a while but why not try thinking a bit forward?

Why do that when SN Traders will probably have a bunch before I even get on my return flight? LOL.

The $699 price leaves me relieved because I really expected this phone to clock more than that.

Well..in regards to this entire thread the only thing to say is "we'll see"...for those who pre ordered (myself included) at the price of $500, well, if this device is not what we expect, then the worst scenario is we're out 5 bills and move on to an Iphone, or whatever. Not the end of the world. I don't think Nokia will abandon support of the 97 tho, in spite of what may be down the road. They are big, but recognize the importance of customer loyalty to a degree, in light of the increased worldwide competition

Def worth buying the iphone and selling it for some quick cash. I would recommend you to wait for the new iphone 3G S and sell it for like $700+ to make some good money for the N97. Just buy the phone and sell it on eBay and tell AT&T you lost the phone.

I'm not gonna lie, I was really hoping for the N97 to be something close to an iphone killer but it doesnt look very responsive. I've seen videos of people scrolling through the menu and It looks very similiar to the 5800.

I can't seem to see if it has an FM transmitter. Did they remove it? If so, that sucks. That's now a top priority for a phone for me. Not THE top priority, but a big one, nonetheless.

Anyway, this is my dream phone... MINUS the FM transmitter if it's gone.

They didn't invent portable MP3 players or touchscreen cell phones so calm down on the whole innovation thing. With the iPod they just jumped in and made portable MP3 players smaller using 2.5" hard drives from laptops. Something that was such a no brainer that I'm sure that hundreds of people from Creative Labs got fired for since they didn't think of it first.

Lest we forget that the first time they tried to involve themselves in the cell phone market, they failed miserably. That's what you get when you involve Motorola.

I have no interest in Apple products because they don't do anything that my devices don't do already and they aren't capable of doing many of the things I need them to but their company fascinates me. If you get get a chance, search Wired.com for the history of the iPod and the history of the iPhone. You get to bear witness to the fiery rage of Steve Jobs.

By the way rapidstar, where have u been? LOL

It's always tilted. Imo it's good in the way that they can make it sturdy with the one big metallic hinge(made of magnesium to be precise ;) ), but wouldn't mind to have that flat slide out qwerty too :(
