*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

By the way, why the **** is everybody talking about the black ones shipping? I pre-ordered mine on May 9th and still haven't heard a word from them.

Thanks rapidstar and all the others that answered... if Im reading your replies correctly, aside from the CPU on the phone affecting the speed, if you have some space free on a Micro SD card rather than having it 99% full will allow for a faster performance...???

Pss, i could do that too, watch:

Just for you Isaac, it will be 500$, we told Blaxx it'd be 1000$ so he'd pay the difference

I got a little cheat code for the Accuweather widget. Anytime it's stuck on loading, launch the widget (click on it) and the full app will open. It will either day Getting position... or Loading... at the top. Goto Options -> Settings. Press the Add icon but don't enter a location, click back on the Settings icon then press Done. Now it should be Getting position... again then it will start Loading... However, this time it should actually load up the weather info. I know it's a funky fix but like I said, it's a cheat code, they weren't always practical (remember Game Genie? LOL)

This has always worked for me

Hyperbole of course, so hopefully you'll excuse it cause I haven't yet seen that from you and am not accusing you (or JonnyBruha) , but often constructive criticism gives way to blind crusading aka trolling.

What's the point? I haven't seen where anyone... except maybe JamesBond (and I think that might be stretching it) are buying the Nokia marketing tripe and instead have a specific combination of desired features that Nokia hasn't yet previously offered and that Samsung or others aren't offering now. Some come close in many ways, but don't meet the bar for whatever reason. If you find the Omnia superior, what possesses some people with the need to continually advocate another device in the official N97 thread? Are any of the pro-N97 people evangelizing in the OmniaHD thread?

Sounds like it could be a great device, unless it would mean waiting another 6 months to a year while Nokia gets used to adapting and optimizing and developing their code to a new environment. Maybe they went left when they should have went right. We can quantify what they did go with already reasonably makes up the spec difference while the stuff they left out (except maybe the RAM) is more difficult.

Tried and true versus new hotness is a common debate and there are diminishing returns to going with the old platform. Certainly specs can prove a bragging right.

I agree on the latter point. They're not a primary reason for my interest in N97. It remains to be seen what the real world implications are of the spec differences. Is browsing going to be 1 sec slower per page? half? 1.5? Do you think repeated Out of Memory Errors are going to drive some people to chuck their phones in the trash? Do you think Nokia will never address these concerns in firmware? Or will they just take too long to do it?

Some of us won't be able to use the Omnia at all due to the particulars of our 3G environment. Others don't' want to compromise on specific features (say, the keyboard) or find great value in others (4x the storage). Some will be using alot as a music player, in which case N97's strengths are better utilized than as a video recorder, where Omnia takes the lead. Texters and emailers may prefer the hard keyboard or may not mind the software keyboard. Nascent photographers may appreciate the Samsung more or may not effectively care if they have to push a button versus their subject smiling or not. Same for the 8M versus 5M pictures if they're not going make prints greater than 11x14....

This looks nice...

i like it better than this

My N95 8GB is 14 months phone. I do pretty much everything including watching divx movies from coreplayer at perfect frame rate. Taking amazing pictures and DVD quality videos, doing a lot of email and web and hearing music in the background and by multitasking between all those stuff in the same time.

OK I may not be able to play Crysis in it but where you link your statement that is slow?

Dunno. Performance between my N85-1 APAC and N95-3 was even across the board, for both N-Gage and video playback (on RealPlayer as well as DIVX Mobile). My recent use of the XPERIA has told me that promising hardware acceleration chips on paper (its Imageon) are rarely, if ever, utilized.

On the keyboard, is it a plastic gloss feel or is it rubbery? It seems the back is rubbery, screen is gloss plastic of course but I can't tell for the keyboard. Still torn between white and black. Just thinking that the rubbery parts might absorb color quickly so I'm still unsure of the white, although it stands out to me.
