*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I kinda disagree. The chrome ring on my E71s isn't scratched much at all (just one scratch at the bottom edge of the phone...dropped it on my driveway) and I kick it around pretty hard. However, like all things chrome, yeah it will scratch

Why would you not have unlimited nights and weekends? All plans have it built in on att and tmobile.

And the only collective place for widget access points is the browser settings. All my widgets seem to follow it, but i still get 2 other annoying pop up menus, so its still annoying.

Wow this thread is a b...ch to keep up with. All I can say with my 2c is that I preordered the 97 at a price too good to pass on, but meanwhile I'm happy as heck with my 2 yr old 95-1-most trusty device I've ever had. So..I don't really care when they ship the 97..could be in September for all I care. I can always cancel the order and move on the 3rd gen Iphone by then. Hard to give up on the 95 tho

I got my phone today.I'm yet to insert sim card, but here's the mini review:

Built:
'Which was my main concern'
Very solid, I'm satisfied with the build quality and moving mechanism.

Screen:
Huge gorgeous screen and certainly more responsive than Nokia 5800.

Sound quality through speakers:

Loud enough, but not a lot of bass like Nokia 5800, I think Nokia 5800 may be louder, tough to compare as I don't have the 5800 anymore.

Sound quality through Sony high quality headphones:
Almost like n85, loud and rich sound with sufficient bass, capable music phone.

Now the keyboard:
One word, disappointing.Top row of keys hardly have any feedback, it does not feel cheap, but all the keys have uneven response/feedback, bottom row has sufficient feedback and click sound like Xperia. It will take a lot of time to get used it, at least for me.

Yet again Nseries quality control not up to par, it's a 700$ phone!!

Two dead pixels, one very bright and annoying, it's destroying the charm of huge screen.

I'm not sure if I heard in youtube's videos, as we know screen gives haptic feedback, but what a let down, there is loud buzzing sound every time you touch to vibrate, it's a flaw because this sound was not there with 5800.I'm sad due to this, sending back the phone to Nokia costs money and it's a hassle, there turn around time is 1 month!! I'll appreciate if any other N97 owner can check on this, may be the vibration inside the phone is faulty. You cannot hear it in noise place, but it can definitely be heard.I noticed it with in 15 seconds of playing with the phone.
Can any1 else can confirm these problems?

I'll write more once I get the phone outdoors for camera/gps testing.Meanwhile, questions are welcome.

I believe it will allow for Flash 9 content like Hulu etc. to be viewable. A Hulu app would be better so I don't have to wait for that site to take 134 seconds to load on this phone.

Just a widget to access search result and play the video in true full screen.

Nokia is releasing the EU model on June. This is final. NAM model will follow shortly after that, probably July. Until then prepare your current Nokia phone for Ovi Store as the service will launch very soon in early May.

i also wish the build quality of this phone is better also lately nokia hasnt been doing a good job on the quality of phones it has released like the nokia 5800 and the e75 who are having complaints

awesome. the phone needs to hurry up and ship!

hoping they got some good emulators for it. i think with the keyboard, playing old school games will be awesome. like mario and stuff

Liberal hippie, agree. N86's contribution will be more in the better performance in "in between" conditions, i.e. e.g. at dawn or dusk or in cloudy/darkish conditions outdoors. AAS samples demonstrated that already. Obviously, where it still loses out to the N82 is the flash, i.e. in dark conditions.

JB, there is not a lot more innovation on the Omnia HD -just more specs. ;)

Why don't they just use glowpaint (www.glowpaint.com) on the keyboard characters and paint a gloss over it or better yet just put a permanent little slip of it underneath the whole keyboard so it is continously lit for 12 years.
I wonder what it would look like if they painted it with fantachrome?

honestly, the 3.5 inch screen on the N97 won't be that much of a noticible difference than the 3.2 inch on the 5800. Considering that the N97 is basically a 5800 with a slideout keypad and updated OS, you may just want to cancel that 5800 asap. Save your money, as it would be redundant to get both devices at the same time...and this is coming from someone who owns the 5800 and has the N97 coming in...i'll be offloading the 5800 to a family member that needs a new phone. What you're doing is almost like buying a BMW 135i and a 335i at the same time, but they both are no M3.
