*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Yeah I have seen the videos, it just doesn't impress me. I smell lags coming, not sure why. I smell finger moving and app trying to catch up.

I hate the way the camera slide sticks out like that. And the way that the camera cover looks is just horrible. Looks too sqare like no? I think they could of rounded it up a bit, and eliminated some edges on it. When I saw the phone from the back, it looked as if there was something stuck on the back of it, just find out that that was the camera.

EDIT: also looks to be a bit big no? I don't have pockets that big.

Take a look at the screenshot when the Options menu is opened. You can filter the view based on what you're looking for, otherwise there wouldn't be a "Show all" option. And even Download! has a Search function that it probably the only part of that app that isn't retarded.

Until yesterday I was fixed on getting a N97 until I asked myself "Why should I get the same phone with added touchscreen and keyboard?"
It's pretty pathetic what Nokia pulled off with this one which is why the OmniaHD is gona be the first non-Nokia phone I will ever own. At least the common OS will make the transition less painful. I just wanna get what's currently the best out there and this, unfortunately, ain't Nokia anymore :(
Maybe the N99 will convince me back.

32 GBs.....! 32 GBs!! How is this not what everyone's talking about?! There's a whole segment of customers that can replace their primary mp2 player with this now!

First thing I'm doing with mine is slapping a 16 gb sd card in it.

just wait for the 2nd generation N97...

remember the E90 keyboard that was a bit too high and was scratching the internal inner wide-sreen, well, it look like the opposite happened with the N97... the keys are way low that the play is not there, this probably happened because they want to make sure that the sliding mechanism has a very slim gap in order to avoid those terrible wooble of which nokia got stunned because of too many complaints...

well, if there will be a lot of complaints about the keyboards and if there will be some defects again (defects are always there anyway), just wait for the 2nd gen N97 and they will probably fix the keyboard, just like what they did with the E90...

^^^There aren't too many shots of that..I've looked myself. But from what I understand (can't remember from where), that's a definite yes. I mean, how else can you manually enter a phone # (other than the landscape qwerty keypad). However T9 in portrait will be kinda strange IMO. It will only be good for number entry.

I think if the journey towards ultimate convergence isn't being made from smartphone-up, then it will inevitably come from netbook/UMPC-down, so it doesn't matter. The N97 won't delay convergence evolution and development to a better smartphone.

I'm neither a "fanboy" or a "hater" (I don't mean to insult anybody by the use of these words, I'm just in lack of better terms) of the N97. I was also underwhelmed by some of its specs and now I'm beginning to get a little worried about the keyboard as well (I did, however, preorder it due to the glitch).

My honest question for the "haters" would be: what else is out there? What other device does what the N97 does - big screen, qwerty (physical or virtual), good OS - plus the more than usable camera&video recording?

I'm excluding the Omnia HD, which apparently has some serious RF issues.

1) Go into Contacts and do a Long Press on a contact and "Add to Favorites." You should see the icon change from the green/generic thing to your contact photo.

2) I've seen people report this, but didn't see it myself, though I stopped using the widget in favor of the Music Player a few days ago. I can generally see the weather where I'm at pretty easy... but that's Southern California for you.

3) Not a big phone gamer, though I'm kinda interested in the NES emulator myself... just not too keen on sending some site my IMEI. Ovi? AAS? A certain i-Site that shouldn't be named? :D nGage compatibility is imminent, if you're interested in that?

guys its identical to the triband n85 that is already out, it does NOT have all the bands for ATT network. no way will i buy a phone without 850 3g when my area just turned on 3g 850mhz! so this means there will be a n97 NAM version as well. we're STILL stuck with 2 versions of phones. why not just throw that extra band in?!?!
