*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Well, my N95-3 was made in Finland and I've seen the Nokia plant production video on YouTube of Finns making N95 8GB's. Say what you want about build quality, the plastic might creak but my N95 took several rough poundings and survived nicely. Nokia is known for their sturdy phones, some used as hockey pucks here in Canada lol.

I know Nokia did close Germania's last mobile phone plant, which has angered many consumers there. It has production in a few EU states and Asia, from what I gather the higher-enders are mostly made in the EU.

I was so gung-ho on getting the Xperia, but the dis-info and delays and recall have pissed my off so much I'm going back to Nokia. I prefer WinMo to S60, but I can't leave behind Nokias amazing RF and camera quality. SE dropped the ball on the X1 and I'm sure HTC is behind it!

Yeah, you've been doing it all day. :D

Sure. We got that point a long time ago from you. Could you answer what's your purpose is in continued trolling of this thread? Trying to evangelize? Or just general ranting?

Obviously that was allegory for a larger issue of memory and/or processor creep and I was pointing out the issue that simply throwing hardware out. But then that's what happens when you pick a nit (out of context no less), unless you disagree that software optimization is the issue versus insufficient hardware?

You're also wrong about having experience with S60. Just like I never bothered to buy inferior N95, I played around with them enough to recognize the strengths and weaknesses soon enough. N97 answers those weaknesses, almost all in the UI, yet retains the capable camera while improving on the internet experience.

Similarly, I came close to iPhone and saw enough of the G1 to know where it failed to measure up (mostly in the camera area).

Not to say N97 is perfect... I could pull a page for your book and rant for pages on end on why we're stuck with the same camera, instead of pushing the envelope with 8 megapixels, optical zoom, face recognition, xenon flash, etc etc. Or I can accept that it is what it is and move on.

So you don't have a list of "midrange" phones with 32GB of storage, 3.5" touchscreens, and qwerty keyboards with 5mp cameras, do you?

I'm not really feeling it or the Touch Pro2. They made them look uglier, kinda cartoonish in the case of the Touch Pro2. I dunno, I liked them better with the rigid corners instead of the smooth, rounded corners.

A lot of us received the same email yesterday. I think it had something to do with updating ordering systems. I don't believe that the emails mean that the phone will ship on monday.

yeah, but who really looks at unsubsidized prices anyway? all their phones are listed at 200 over what they should be. just look what they charging for a krzr without contract 260 bucks when i wouldnt even pay 50 for it.

i have both and its a tough call, iphone wins in web browsing and ui ,n97 wins as a phone and better multi media device over all, not talking playing songs and watching movies.
To some degree because of all its bluetooth functions its, more user friendly than the iphone.
example i use stereo bluetooth alot, so on the iphone it wont allow me to control anything but answering a call and volume, so if i want to change a song i have to grab iphone, if its locked touch screen to unlock, and sometimes its in landscape mode so then i have to turn it to potrait or double tap home button to get ipod controls then i can change music.

On my n97 i hit forward button im done, even if i had to unlock phone the music controls are there whether in landscape or in portrait so just plain easier and faster.
when i get a call and im browsing on the n97 i hit answer call or green button and the browser remains and i talk and browse, when i want to hang up i just hit end call and i am still on my web browser.

The iphone takes u to the call, then u have to hit home button, then safari and then when you want to end call u have to tap green bar on top to go back to call then end call, or you can hit home button and then end call very annoying.
to make a call on the iphone is yet another thing that kills me, i have to hit phone icon, then contacts or favorites if they are stored there, then the name which then brings me to the #'s and then dial.

On the n97 i hit contacts then name hit green button if they have 2 #'s they are displayed tap the # and it dials, if if its 1 # i hit contacts name and green button and it dials.

They both have pluses and minuses, and just depends on the individuals needs.

I'll just be happy if Nokia really has that many of these things to pass around come June 2nd. That means we may actually get our preorders in a timely manner. Fingers crossed for that.

Addition:
I could see Rogers possibly picking up this phone. I doubt AT&T will, they met their annual Nokia quota with the e71x, but Rogers tends to pick up a lot of the cooler Nokia and SE phones.

Out of coincidence, work has started offering overtime availability, lol, i've been taking everything i can get, haha. And technically, what i meant was, i always have food at home... but im never home, so i always eat out, lol... guess i'll have to start being home now for a purpose other than sleeping... :(
