*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I don't think it worked for the N81. I remember almost buying it from SN Traders. I put my SIM card in it to test and changed my mind almost immediately after it turned on.

I have a dilemma. Lets say that the NokiaUSA orders ship next week, Monday. So I would receive the N97 on Tuesday. I also have an Amazon order, but it is not expected to ship until June 10-24. My NokiaUSA order total was $750+ while my Amazon order was $613.

Should I keep the NokiaUSA order? Or be a smart person and save the $140, but wait 1-3 additional weeks.

flagship stores already have the stock, sales start tomorrow. You will see a lot of n97 on ebay this week. Pre order is changed to 'Buy Now' on Nokiausa.com and when you checkout it says, orders will ship end of business day if placed M-F

Impressive phone, but I am still not impressed. Nokia went from the one that always made that step ahead, to just hanging and still swimming in the same waters. I guess Nokia wants to CONTINUE playing the game of making N97 then N97-2 then N97-3 then N97-4 and so on, before they upgrade anything.

Looks as if it will be a slow phone. The transitions I think will be HORRIBLE. The phone can have a lot of things but if its too slow, it takes the fun out of it. They need to perfect the speed, and totally eleminate the "OPENING....." loading screens. Nokia has been runing on Symbian FOREVER, but still can't perfect it the way it needs to be. Instead they just keep overloading it, when it is not perfected.

There are very small companies developing software that work on Symbian making it almost perfect with speed and transitions, wether your talking about pictures, videos, menues ext. yet Nokia which lives Symbian has still not gotten it.

And remember the more memory the slower it gets.

I totally agree with everyone's that it is technically redundant to have it there. But I really don't see why they wouldn't include it. There's no reason to.

The G1 didn't have a virtual keyboard, but they eventually put it in with the Cupcake build. Maybe Nokia will eventually put it in.

I am pretty sure that will be on the next communicator (E93 maybe ?
) because eldar stated on latest N97 review that next communicator will be carrying Linux-based system

This thread isn't about the cutting edge device from Nokia to help expand that S60 envelope.

This thread is about N97. It is what it is. You should start your own about the Nokia and the cutting edge of S60 development.

Like I've been saying, we're arguing about tangental points but yours isn't on topic.

Here's a snippet taken from the latest (I think) post on Nokia Conversations, about the N97 homescreen design and the widgets:
"As for what?s next? The design team is looking at ways to enable this tool for more Nokia devices. Also the ambition is to enable multiple homescreens on single device."
So maybe we will get multiple screens of widgets!
Although, if i'm honest, we probably won't see that on the N97. It'll probably be saved for a new device.
Oh, here's a link to the full thing - http://conversations.nokia.com/2009/05/27/stepping-behind-the-nokia-homescreen/

If you're using Firefox, just right click on the pictures, and then select "view image".
You will have the high res version of the picture.
I'm not sure if it works with Internet Explorer, but it should also work on Chrome.

Nice! I'll be waiting for an Invisibile shield full body protector for my N97 before I take it out of the house. Untill then my trusty n95-4 will have to fill in. first I have to get the phone though
