*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

question - is there any major difference between the N86 and n97 besides screen size and memory ? if not I figure ill go with the N86 if its less expensive than the n97 and the build quality is good .

Very true, but Amazon is well known for accurate ETAs, especially its history with Nokia NAM phones is full of early releases and cheap prices.

I had tried the version of Backgrounder as of two days ago. For reference, I have owned this 3G for about 2 weeks..

Also my 3G loads the contact list instantly without Backgrounder, and I didn't notice a difference in the speed of Mail (or the iPod) either.. unless you're talking about doing that while Safari is backgrounded, but I don't see what that proves since the other apps are still always backgrounded (as mentioned in the Info section for Backgrounder itself).

Though I'm agreeing with you that the 3G will be amazing jailbroken.. all I'm saying is that your original image seems redundant to me. :p

 From your reaction this really must be the Jesus phone!

I am excited about the N97, but I think that I fall into the conservative category of those who will stick to the mid range devices from the ESeries. I prefer the qwerty bar and the N97 may be overkill for me, but I wouldn't turn down a review unit from WomWorld!

Who said you're forced to use a computer to charge it?

This is why the iphone comes with a usb power adapter. Charges the phone in half the time. I'm fairly sure the N97 will come with one too (at least I hope so)

And you know what's great about that? Virtually ANY usb power adapter will work with the N97. Just connect the cable to a wall plug or a car plug and you're set.

Show me a comment that says "i hate nokia." Sr's main phone is an E66 which he loves. I don't recall seeing any comments in the past few pages where a poster just trashed the phone for no reason. Considering there is some form of feedback provided to nokia from this site, what's wrong with giving criticism?

There are people who dislike the fact that nokia took their merry time in rushing out a half-baked touch OS. Yes they do have many phones and many areas to cover, but it's boggling why, two years after the iPhone's introduction, AND close to two years after S60 touch was first introduced at a smartphone show in october, it's still at the state where it is just feature pack 2 with touch functionality stuck on top. What's the point? This year, many other manufacturers have not only gotten to the level of functionality of S60 devices, but have built interfaces geared around touchscreens. An N97 is my ideal device, but I hope Nokia gets off its *** and finally makes an OS familiar to its users but designed from the ground up for touchscreens.

Is it just me or does it seem like people are making assumptions about the release date of the n97. I thought the march 31st was just the pre-order date, dont these usually change for retailers?

Has there been any official announcement by nokia?

i think you're talking about at 4:25 min mark, the screen doesnt rotate, but it looks like he only has rotation set with the keypad open. there's a on/off toggle for turning the auto-rotate on or off, and it just looks to be turned off to me.

nice video though, but i'm so sick of these reviewers showing the homescreen and how we can move around the widgets. i wish for once a reviewer would show something different once they finally get an n97 to play with. i'm just sick of widget demo moving them around.

Then again, he also referred to kinetic scrolling as "using the accelerometer". :hehehe:

It doesn't seem that responsive to touch, he's had to push a few buttons twice or thrice for the action. But I guess that's not important as long as they can talk about their "transition effects".

The two things that I really find dissapointing are the fact that the soft keys are such a huge waste of screen real estate and as has been mentioned ad nauseum, the blank second home screen.

Just got another email confirmation on mine. Status for both N97 and headset are blank. I would take this to mean they are shipping today. Oh happy day!
