*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Holy crap!!! Is that what they're selling them for?!? I saw that they were selling them without commitment now but didn't look at the price. GEEZ! Did they go to the Rogers Wireless school of price matching?

1500MAh battery. I think we'll be just fine. I run Nokia Messaging, SlickIM, Worldmate and Mobbler all day on my E71 and I can go 2 days without a charge if I don't spend the whole day at work listening to podcasts.

wow... just went through 152 pages.. eyes are gunan fall out now. I miss nokia and symbian. I strayed away to HTC and Winmo and now I'm back with my 5800. Loving it, but I really need a keyboard and would like to keep the TV-out. This is my primary reason for waiting for the N97. I'l probably let it release, work out the bugs and get it when it drops price a little :)

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9000/4.6.0.266 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/107)

I'm a fan of the terminator series, so I was a bit ticked off at the movie, but the action was still top notch. Reviewers jst trashed it because it didn't make sense to them, while I(like others) picked up on ALL references to the previous movies/TVshow etc.

Non-removable battery equals end of discussion!

Apples grade equals F on design no matter how many light seizure commercials they make.
Flunk!
They can't even take the first step in design which is removable battery compartment.

Here's how I set it up on my N97. You can define all the Access Points by going to Settings->Connectivity->Destinations

For the "Internet" AP, I set up 2 access points. I set my home WiFi as the one having priority 1 and TZones as priority 2

Then for settings:

Connection name: T-Zones
Data bearer: Packet data
Access point name: wap.voicestream.com
(I can't get epc.tmobile.com to work for some reason)
User name: None
Prompt password: no
Password: none
Authentication: Normal
Homepage: None
Use access point: Automatically

Then for Advanced Settings:
Network type: IPv4
Phone IP address: Automatic
DNS addresses: Automatic
Proxy server address: 216.155.165.50
Proxy port number: 8080

I think this way when I'm home, the widgets and apps go through my WiFi connection, then when I leave the house it uses T-Zones Edge to connect.

You could argue that Facebook sort of is. I see people who live on that site and their entire communication with the world is on that site.

The beauty of this is people like me can just put a widget for calendar, Mail for exchange, Weather, one row of "fave four" and maybe 2 rows for shortcuts without having any social network if I so choose. I'm sure there will other compelling widgets of interest to all of us and being updated on the home screen in real time is amazing. It could be stocks for some news for others, whatever you want it seems.

obviously you have never used email on any other smartphone platform. If you have ever used an iphone, blackberry, or wm phone you would realize how outdated and crappy the email app on S60 is.

Frankly stupid "test" even with an NAM on dual mode it switches to EDGE unnecessarily. You must keep it on UMTS - only mode and then check if there are spots without any service.

The way he tested the switch could have happened due to some arbitrary signal signal issue. These phones in dual mode go to EDGE in areas where in UMTS only mode I still get 4-5 bars.

I think anyone who's played with a 3G Nokia for a month would know this.

lol yeah. I did the youtube version since it was broken up into the different chapters. Nothing too surprising there, though I liked his walkthrough of the menus and messaging/calendar/etc. That little silver triangle opposite the menu key had me most concerned, but from the close up pictures, looks like a screen protector (you can see cutouts around the menu button and the proximity sensor, etc).

That video makes it look about as ready as it can be. Release this week, hopefully!

Hi all,

Well i took part in the first Q&A session @09:30GMT and one of the questions i asked was about the processor no OMAP at all it is running a Tuned ARM11 and apparently gives both great performance and battery life with the 1500aMh Li-Polymer battery.

What i also asked was about a device using an OMAP3 chip soon and when can we expect to see a device with it and of course got no answer to this. I just don't understand what has happened to the OMAP3 powered devices as expected them well before now or first half 2009.

Having said all that i can't wait to get my hands on one for trial and this could well be my next purchase and bring me back to S60. This was just in time for me as i was about the buy Touch HD to give WM one more chance after my X1 failure.

Marc
