Here's a bit more info about the N97 that I had the privilege to mess around with today. It was the charcoal black version (which really is more like a dark grey) running very early software and final hardware.
I didn't have very high expectations for the software because it was one of the older versions, but it still did okay. There was nothing I did on it that really wowed me at all. Everything took an adequate amount of time to do and it was about as fast as the 5800XM. I have a feeling the speed has improved with the final production firmware, or at least I hope it has.
The screen was not the hard plastic like on the eternity. It felt very similar to the 5800XM but the touch layer seemed closer to the screen. It helped sensitivity, but as I said, you'll still know it's a resistive screen. It's still the same delicate, thin level of plastic on top.
The keyboard really let me down though. I am using the keyboard on my N810 now to type this (I hate it), but it is MUCH better than the N97's. The keys were not very raised and I had a hard time feeling whether or not I had actually pressed the button down. The keys aren't too small, but noticeably smaller that the keys on the E75, E90, and the N810. The space bar wasn't too bad on the right because your thumb tends to rest there when you hold it open, but it still suffered from the lack of tactile feedback and it's still weird to have it there. Without a virtual keyboard, I stringly urge you guys to remember your return policy because the keyboard could be a deal breaker for you.
Only other impression was that it's still very hot looking. It's thick, but not too thick, and overall not too big. If you are comfortable with an iPhone in your pocket, this won't be a problem at all.
I will try to answer more questions if you guys have any, but it may be hard for me because all I have is my N810 tethered to my W580 over EDGE for my stay out here. No wifi.
