*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Co-sign. You're talking about putting Linux or Windows on a cellphone. Because that's all the N97 is, no matter what the hell Nokia wants to call it.

I don't even own a Nokia right now, don't own any of their stock, and outright stated I don't particularly care if they fail? Nor do these services particular matter to me, either. How does that make me a Nokia fanboy? They happen to have hit the bullseye for me with the N97's feature set. If they were still in 1999 err... 2005 they would be precisely playing Samsung's game and zonking in megapixels, going to 512mb of RAM and powered by snapdragon, etc. They saw a reason to turn from that... either they're flailing already or saw their previous method with the N95's wasn't working.... or somewhere in between...

Most likely they're trying to ape Apple instead of playing along with Samsung. They're already at the top so maybe they see something Samsung doesn't. Will they succeed? Time will tell. Avoiding Apple's Kung-Fu deathgrip and illicit affair with AT&T is a start for many folks put off by how that turned out. If they succeed, great. I'm already happy and Nokia stockholders happy. :buddies:

Everyone raves over that facebook thing. I don't even have a facebook account, but I am thinking about starting one up since several of my friends have them and N97 would make it pretty easy with that nice demo on their site. In front of my computer, I'd probably never join... easy from the phone when I'm in the lunch room work at work or at the DMV or something is a different proposition. :silly:

Whoaaaa there!!! Correct me if i'm wrong, but I was merely correcting what you said about Nokia ceasing their funding in OVI as a whole. Now i'm sorry if I offended you by pointing out a mistake that you made, but can I ask where I have claimed that I love OVI and think its a runaway success?? I don't know what is going on with some of the people in this thread, but as soon as someone says something that even hints at a liking of Nokia they feel they need to jump down their throats!!

The iphone is not a better value as u may think:

1- that price is the subsidized price. Buying it off ebay or craigslist will probably be $500 - 600, only slightly less than $600 for the N97 from amazon.

2- more importantly is that u can use the $15 (or $10) data plan vs the required $30 plan with the iphone.

Hey Dogmann

"Different Strokes for Different Folks"

Just because the BOLD works for you does not make it a better device. As well as the E71 for me, or the Nseries for other people.

We all have different taste and different features that we want on a device.

I'm going to hope and say that just might be an issue with that particular device. It might be an engineering model/pre-production whatever as that guy is a Nokia rep (so not sure if he gets to play with it as his daily or what).

I haven't see that issue on the other white phones during any demo vids. Edit: I just went back and watched some other demo vids and they all have this issue, some not as bad as others. Yikes.

You are right though, it would be a shame if the white phone was released like that. I don't think Nokia is that dumb, however.

@Blaxx

What you seriously only visit Cr*p Wap web sites jeez it's 2009 not 1999 Wap always and still is the worst experience you could ever wish for. I've never used Wap as found the experience so disappointing it was hardly better than being worthless. Sure your Web browser flies whilst viewing pages designed for dumb phones but what's the point?it's hardly an Internet experience to be proud of or enjoyable is it?

Marc

declaring low value is so common that they know you are lying.
if you are lucky you can sometimes get away with bringing it in as a gift.

u think thats bad, car duties on the nicer vehicles are like 200%
lol
on the flipside free health care and free education of a pretty good standard up to tertiary level

i guess its just the way of life i have been accustomed to.

for the 1st time, i am seriously having 2nd thoughts...

it is becoming clear that S60 is just like S40... no clear future...

i dont know that nokia is doing???

No, that's my point! Your personal preference is what's going to make you buy one way or the other. I'm asking you to forget about that for a second and look at both devices for EVERYTHING that they have, no just what's important and not important to you.

You're right, it's $654. ;)

Either way, if you can't get it shipped, you can't get it shipped. But it's still cheaper than the N97 (with 1/4 the internal memory).
