*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I doublechecked engadget's N97 unveiling even pictures and the back of the black version was free of the featurebar stuff. It might've been in press pictures but it wasn't on the actual phone.

yeah, it kinda sucks how long we have to wait for this thing. Today came the first blow to it. For example, the OMNIA HD, kills it in all aspects... I don't even remember or care that I need a QWERTY when I read the OMNIA specs. Its only going to get worse from here for the N97. Hopefully they'll remember what made the N95 rise, and repeat it with a new revolutionary handset that will still be above competition when they release 1 year after annoucement.

For this misunderstanding is why Nokia was SCREAMING from the very beggining that the 5800 is a MID-Range device and not high-end.

5800 is perfect value for its money, plus is one of the best touch-screen devices out there, infact in many areas is better if you compare it with other high-end touchscreen phones. But 5800 is not a high end phone it is in the mid-range category, other mid-range phones are AGES behind the 5800 period. We should thank Nokia that gave us such a wonderful device in that amazing price. This is the 5800. Comparing the 5800 with the N97 is like comparing the Mercedes SLK with SL65 Black series or SLR.

Now the N97 is a high end phone, not only that it is in Multimedia, All in one category. Like the N95 it will probably have a 3D hardware accelerator.

There is no way that Nokia will release an $700, N97 and not handle well the Multimedia and multitasking.

Now if the Nokia N97 can handle, videos, multimedia, divx and doing all task as it should do them, who cares if it has omap the old arm, intel or whatever? :befuddled

I've had my 95-1 for 2 years now-longer than any device/cellphone that I've ever owned. It just took away any fever for another device, including Iphone..but now that I'm ready for something new, I just hope the 97 does everything as well as the 95 does. The need for 2 hands tho makes me somewhat hesitant..and it appears to lack a built in SIP client? I use that on my 95 fairly frequently with voipcheap. All that said, I preordered the 97 at a crazy price & will try it..if it's not what I thought it would be, then it should be easily sold..so no biggie really. I have to say that I bought the touch for a gift and got to play with it and it is definitely impressive-if the Iphone is like the touch & also is a phone...well I may agree with Bruha-it really may be the winner this summer

I'm pretty indifferent about folders. If I need them I'll use them, if not then not. However, Cydia does offer a very efficient folder app which allows you to do just that, make folders :)

Cool, you get what I mean...

I have a Nokia Internet Tablet N810 and was hoping the N97 would replace my N810 for good. But at the moment it looks like I will be carrying a "N97" and whatever the next Maemo device that's going to be released...

I'm hoping for a maemo based phone. ;)

Dont convert it to dollars. Keep the money in Swedish crowns over there and buy property with it. Eg vacation home and rent it out. A LOT of upside in doing that. Probably more so than buying property in the US right now.

As for SE, I dont think the prices will go up much. Nominally the company is swedish but a lot of their expenses eg marketing and manufacturing are abroad anyway. And at this point its a dogfight for market share in the mobile phone industry sp drop in profit will not really be anything other than expecte anyway.

Nope. The chin is there and prominent. Shouts to Jay Leno!

That video tnkgrl posted had the guy saying that the black is shipping first with white shipping afterward. If I remember correctly the white E71 came out a month or two after the grey one.

Everything is speculation until we get actual dates.

I just realized that the EURO N97 only hit the FCC 2 weeks ago. We gotta learn to be patient........................nah, F that..........................WHY ISN'T IT JUNE YET!?!?!?!?!

Yeah but why the fear? Why not just go buy something else if the N97 doesn't meet your needs? Why trash Nokia because of the components they put in the phone? I'm not speaking to anyone specifically, I'm just trying to find out why this causes so much emotion because I could swear most of you don't even like Nokia.

That's my million-dollar question... I have a large data plan, so I don't mind at all running web-connected widgets all day long... but in my head... such power would drain a normal phone in 4, 5 hours max... I'm really hoping Nokia corrects me wrong...

You guys just gotta wait and see.. I hope they release the device this year..

I mean the specs was announced 4 months ago.. (clues for you guys to know what I'm talking about)

I guess Nokia still have something up their sleeves, it might not be a S60 but I think it would make alot of a difference..

Same here. I actually saw a picture of him from online when I was researching the history of Nokia. I was also quite impressed with the corporate office building in Espoo, Finland.

I've never held an Xperia so I can't compare it to that. I've been able to deal with very small keyboards in the past, but not like this. I don't want to harp on the point over and over again. Just make sure you try it for yourself before you make your purchase, if you can, or be sure to remember your return period when your preorder arrives.
