*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Haptics most likely. To be fair you'd have to give at least a couple days, which is all it took most reviewers to get used to the spacebar placement and start singing the keyboards praise.

Not sure if you're really interested in being fair... or if you need to justify hundreds of posts against the N97... Don't know you well enough to know if you've ever issued a mea culpa on being wrong before. I'll have no hestitation in denouncing an N97 if something better comes along. Right now, simply nothing that offers the same total package, though I can compromise and get kinda close to the mark on a couple models.

You make so many good points and then totally blow credibility with crap like this. Seriously, I could call Apple the same thing with leaving out basic phone functions for two years with their Jesus Phone. And the world swoons with the release of this "smart" phone. And stop your *****ing about Nokia showing off their kinetic scrolling. Christ Apple has been touting freaking email and web and music on their device like they invented it. Certainly you're not going to sit there and give Nokia a hard time about showcasing a feature of their phone when Steve Jobs is the king of embellishing feature. Give me a freaking break.

You loose more credibility with remarks about transferring guides and navigation licenses when it follows your SIM card. I routinely transfer between my N95 and E71 and the license transfer seamlessly.

Nokia hasn't been working on the N97 for 3 years. iPhone has been out for three years and if you think Nokia sat down the day the iPhone came out and started working on a competitor you're dead wrong. Remember they thought that this touch craze was just a fad and they've realize too late that they need to really focus on this.

Doesn't matter. S60 does what it needs to do for me and I'm not going to cry about a couple extra pushes of a button or on the screen because Nokia offers me a lot more options for all of my tasks. Server search for email doesn't work for me or 95% of the other corporate users since they can't store that much information on the server. It also is amusing that your job is to pull up one month old emails on your mobile device to show them to administrators that should be organized enough to have been able to find the email that they should have received themselves. You need to pull this up daily?

Either way, while I agree that Nokia could do better I see them making strides on the usual complaints I see from consumers; let's increase the resolution from 320x240, let's move on to touch interface, improve the email program, please give me QWERTY on an N-series device, etc. Sure they aren't moving as quickly as a company that started from scratch but with their size they are indeed steering the ship in the right direction.

At least they made both versions of the phone exactly the same. I know a lot of douchebags who bought white iPhone 3Gs and when asked why they said "So people know it's the 16GB one".

*SMH*

Yeah it's not the CPU, but rather the message it sends. It reeks of defeat. It just means: "we give up on being at the forefront of anything, but we do have a smartphone for $200 and a variant of that phone for $700. Hope you like."

Wow, that's kinda "Stupid" lol. even though i know them by heart, i understand how it could bother some people.
But this is a simple fix tho, probably just changing the keypad numbers' pictures. If it annoys enough people, i'm sure Nokia can veeryy easily change that in a future FW

Nokia change the CPU of the n97.....

do it NOW, put a TI 2420 in there clocked at 400mhz.
since nokia has no other platforms that is the only platform left that will give users 3d! and speed.

well when Nokia announced the N96, we all bashed the same fault, no 3d, slow cpu, crap battery. They didn't change anything.

Nokia has been disappointing for a long time now. Its been 2 years since N95 came out. what have you done to the flagship? you have done nothing but crippled it each time. First you threw away 3d, then you even dumped the dual chip which offloads the baseband GSM/3G circuitry to a second chip.

N95,N90,N93,E90,N82 all used TI2420.... why cant you use it again? ......? or the question is why cant you use a newer chip that is FASTER and more battery efficient and has decent 3d accelerator?

Then there is Etri which is supposely the Iphone killer, well.... if that has no 3d you are not looking to kill anything. You spent like what 1 year to get your touch screen v5 OS out, and its still a pretty poor effort.

Palm Pre will definitely kicks ***!!

The N97 has nothing against the Palm Pre.. If Nokia thinks their competing with the Palm Pre with their N97. I think their outta their mind..

Heck I'm not even gonna buy this phone...

My next Nokia phone won't even be a Symbian S60.. Its going to be more powerful than the Palm Pre I tell you that..

Must say having 2100 HSPA on an unlocked phone for someone who travels as much as I do is key. I remember when Nokia used to not put any US 3G bands in and people would complain, now you have to have a quint-band phone to be safe from the haters

Haha yes, the chin is quite stupid. I think the Magic has lost the chin has it not? I've played around with it and it's not too bad. Some of the menus are a little bland. But the phone OS is decent. I like it more than the iPhone, that's for sure.

You didn't see the friggin N97 release promo saying how they were going to continue to update the phone with more features?

Also do you think they will not update when Samsung HD and Satio will??

It's a whole new ball game now man! It's about Nokia switching over to a service oriented company.

Are you even paying attention that they keep making changes constantly to all the software?
Have you seen the constant updates coming out of beta labs?

It's a different game now! It's a different game. They've officially entered the NAM market. N97 has OTA on it. There is an open forum for feedback.

Symbian is no longer theirs and the changes to it get voted on by a council of many corps. They no longer have a pseudo monopoly over symbian OS.
They cannot just "not update" because it will make news in comparison to Samsung and SE. They either update or fail now. It's a different game.

OK look, say for example Samsung and SE update to next Symbian OS in 4 months.
Do you think Nokia is gonna go, "Naaaaaww we don't gotta do that to. We don't have to do that!"
No, use some common sense. Updating is now a another way to compete. They will either update or fail.

I don't see any change...click on Support & Software..there's the banner, same as it's been for more than a month-furthermore..until the N97 is added to the dropdown in the support tab..I'm skeptical of a full blown release
