*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

As someone who has now been known to constantly batter this device for its projected poor performance, I really don't believe you/him. Get the device in your own hands and tell us your experience please. That can't be right.

Guys just relax, if you like N97, buy it, if you like i8910 buy it. Simple as that. Nokia knows what they are doing. Yes i8910 has better specs but IMO N97 will sell more. I'll buy both, try them out and keep the one with fewer bugs.

I've i8510 and it's still the best camera phone out there with amazing build quality and I only paid 450$ for 16gb version, but it has bugs and I don't argue back to my pals who owns n85 and claim it has better camera and build quality than i8510.
Different people, different opinions, in general people don't like hearing negative stuff about something they shelled 400$ on!

Nokia have qualified Engineers so if they use the same CPU, they must have a reason, we cannot tell for sure, may be cutting cost.Their are more plastic phones manufactured then metal.Why? Plastic costs less. Simple!

I hear you guys, I know Nokia N series lately are not up to par, specifically in terms of build quality. I use E71 even though I'm heavy camera user, because I don't like the ''feel'' of using n85 especially when I paid 400$ for it. It creaks like hell!

From what I've seen, i8910 will have better build quality and no moving parts. Again, I'll use both the phones heavily and sell the one! Both are good phones and with superb potential.

Btw, is it just happening to me, but... all my contacts' names are duplicated. For exemple I have "John's Cell" saved on my phone with a number, but on contact display, it would appear "John's Cell John's Cell"...? It happens on every single contact I have, even those I have first and last name saves on both respective cases, for exemple First Name: John and Last Name: Smith, on the contact list it will appear "John Smith John Smith"

Edit: I edit my contacts information thru Nokia PC Suite btw

Now come on, you're trying to be too specific. Any post about the N97, even if it is comparing it to other phones, is fair game. Either that or we would have different threads like: "The Official thread for N97 lovers", "The Official Thread for N97 haters" and so on.

Maybe but there are other contenders. The Omnia HD and of course Apple! If Apple releases ver. 3 hardware along with the 3.0 iphone OS that includes a decent cam/video, the N97 is dead in the water. With the explosion of development for the iphone platform, it makes little sense to go with S60v5 if the hardware is similar.

@steve4130

Now when you say

" Nokia haven't stopped putting money into OVI altogether, only the SHARE side of it."

Oh that's OK then because Comes with Music is a run away success is it? how about N-Gage, Maps i would think is the most successful out of anything. So what else is there? and how does it generate revenue for Nokia?

Have you actually read what's said in that link? actually anyone planning on defending the greatness of OVI should do and don't miss the user comments either.

It's here,

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/9468_Nokia_halts_Ovi_Share_developm.php

As it points out quite simply that Nokia's attempt for users to share their pictures and Video on OVI isn't competing with the existing services. Nokia are now going to improve the access to these primary sharing services instead. Like Flikr and YouTube.

I thought this really summed it up perfectly

"Nonetheless, the failure of Ovi Share to gain traction will be an embarrassment for Nokia. Quite apart from the estimated $96 million cost, it demonstrates the difficulty it has had in building Internet services as it seeks to transition from being a hardware dominated company to a hardware, software and service led company."

So once again can anyone please explain why OVI is just so brilliant for the user or for that matter Nokia? because i just can't see it and defiantly not as an advantage to make me buy an N97.

Sales reps usually talk out of their asses when it comes to info like this. Doesn't matter if they work for Nokia or some car dealership, they are usually the last to know. They'll happily make up what they dont know the rest of the time

What are you wohooing about? We all know you have an N97 already Mark LOL. I don't know how you got one before The Guru but you did and I hate you for it :buddies:

@Prom1

I must say i find your actions and comments at odds with each other as when you say this

" I shun most apps from Google. I like variety and not a conglomerate for sole source of services."

But then praise both OVI and Nokia Mail it just doesn't make sense especially whilst criticising Google and thier services which at least can be accessed via many different makes of devices. Unlike your beloved OVI and Nokia Mail that tie you to using a Nokia device or lose the use of the services.

Which is why i will never sign up for OVI or Nokia Mail especially when IMO there are a better free alternatives that don't enslave you to a manufacturer But then that's exactly what Nokia want. People to use these services and tie themselves to Nokia devices for ever it's convenient for those that don't know better or can't be bothered to choose anything other than the easy option IMHO.
