*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Now that the excitement has worn off:

1) DSP chip?

2) Improved camera optics? Face detection? Image Stabilization?

3) Improved video recording?

4) No xenon?

5) No FM transmitter?

6) Compatible video codecs (avi support!)?

Some of these things will surely be covered all in due time, but when I think about it, yet again they have left out a few things that could truly put other phones to shame.
 
Just got off the phone with a Nokia CSR and here is what they told me:

All those confirmation e-mails that were re-sent are because of a database ugrade to remove old backlogs. You won't be charged twice(which is what i was worried about).

As for the N97, still expected to ship in "July". Nothing further than that unfortunately. :crying: :disappoin

Mostly exchange gripes. Nokia Messaging is pretty cool, and works fine with gmail, but definitely could use a few improvements that should be easy enough to implement. Whether they will or not, who knows. I just hope they don't start charging for it.
 
Ask Nokia, they clearly didn't try with the N96. They just mated an N95 with an N81 and threw it out there. They knew that they were working on the N97 but they couldn't get away without releasing a device from March 2007 to June 2009. The N96 is what it is, a quick buck and a stopgap
 
Please read through my past couple posts and find where I talked about the OmniaHD anywhere. I'm not trying to shove anything down your throat or anyone else's.

The point is YOU should care about the decisions Nokia makes if you like using their phones (which you don't even know if you do yet), lest they make a series of mistakes and go the way of UIQ and you won't be able to buy their phones anymore. Or much more likely in the near future, you won't be able to find an app that you really need because all the developers are busy coding for other, more successful, and easier to use mobile OS's that DO sell.

This isn't about Nokia versus any other single company. It's about Nokia keeping themselves competitive to be successful and trying to sell an overpriced, underpowered flagship while ignoring all of their other opportunities (shortcomings) is not going to help them.
 
In my experience and opinion..

I think 80% of Nokia users bought their phone not because its S60, but because of handset's onboard features.

That is why a lot of times when I asked people with Nokia High end phones and asked about their thoughts on S60.

Common response are "What is S60?"

or a lot of times when I asked people about their thoughts about Nokia phones.

Common response are "Great RF", "Great Battery Life", "Durability", and "User Friendly".

Matter of fact... I started like that and in the long run I evolved and got attached to S60.
 
After having had a couple days to play, I think I would prefer a future option lets us get rid of the time/profile update. Time/Date should be able to go on the very top line next to the operator info and I don't need to see what profile I'm in at any one time.

The ability to make up to 6 shortcut and/or contact icons sounds like it would be easy enough, too. Doubt I'd go to either extreme but why be arbitrary about it? Definitely don't see the need for multiple widget screens since I'm varying between 2 and 5, usually on the lower end. The music player is one of the most useful for me so far. I got bored of AP News and Bloomberg pretty quick but will probably leave Accuweather.
 
oh no, no no no no no, Nokia better freaking NOT do that! I am not spending about 1k$ on something that will get replaced next month... Hell no, work on firmware updates!!!!
