*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Or how many MIPS? ;)

Nah, I think we're already way above people's heads here and how they work when they're in your hand is all that matters.

Hopefully the people at Nokia are smarter than that..otherwise are they trying to pull a fast one on us with the N97? Maybe to combat the release of the 3rd gen Iphone mid June?

You've never even used the phone let alone S60, how are you qualified to say this?

If you aren't a techie you probably will have problems with S60, that's just how it is.

Slashdot I still think you should've given the phone a chance as the ovi store just came out but I guess if you cancelled already it's too late.

Bravo! That's EXACTLY the way that I feel about the N97 too. You hit the nail on the head with all of the same exact things that are going thru my mind about the N97. I just want to be able to use the N97 as a "secondary" source for surfing the internet when I'm not at home sitting in front of my Dell computer. Again, the huge screen on the N97 will make it user friendly to surf the internet. I wouldn't have purchased this phone if there were more choices out there with smartphones that have huge screens like the N97. A bigger screen means much easier visibility to surf the internet. No other phone that's on the market today currently has a huge screen like the N97 does. The N97 beats all other smartphones in this particular feature. That's the main reason why I purchased it. There's currently nothing else out there in the marketplace right now with a huge screen like the N97 for easy userfriendly visibility for surfing the internet. Also, I would not consider the iPhone as having a big screen when compared to the N97. The N97 screen looks bigger than the iPhone's screen.

Eh, that review/video isn't doing the device any favors.

The scrolling seems slow and odd.. when he's going through the reuters news pictures, it's almost like his swipe gesture is disconnected from what's happening on the screen. He makes the gesture, there's a pause, and then the photo slides off. It just seems disconnected and weird.

The device also seems very slow while he's using it. It either needs more RAM or a faster CPU, but if it's looks to be that sluggish while it's being pimped in videos, I can't imagine how painful it could be when power users get their hands on it.

The transition from portrait to landscape seems about as fast as the old HTC S710. Not cool nokia.

He did use a Nokia Communicator to remotely drive his BMW 740Li in Tomorrow Never Dies tho. Casino Royale was all Sony Ericsson though...they forced the product placement down your throat in that movie.

You guys kill me. Every time one of my friends makes a crack about how often I switch phones I just log on to HoFo and show them someone like aggie's phone profile above their posts. Aggie, it asks for three phones, THREE!!! LOL. Not 3 lines to write as many phones as possible.

I accept the slower processor because overall I like more N97 than Omnia HD, the CPU isn't everything in a phone or even a computer, maybe if we start to see lots of applications that perform better in Omnia HD than in N97 then it could change things, but right now, in my opinion, there's no real advantage in choosing Omnia HD solely based on processor.

You're not gonna give up on this eh?

I finally watched the youtube video and I have say if they're going to keep zooming in on her chest, atleast wear a low cut top! I'm a women, so I'm not afraid to admit that sex sells. I'll be more than happy to wear a low cut top if they gave me an N97 to review and keep. :D

OK..so we've beat this thread to death..now it s a waiting game. So my opinion is that until the N97 shows up in the dropdown box of the support tab, it aint happening. Nokia europe site has it in there and they should have a release of June 19 I believe..so my suspicion is June 30..mainly cuz they want to make good on qtr 2 and June 30 is still qtr 2. Out

Nokia is looking into 3rd world countries (like countries in Africa) that these players (Apple/Google/RIM/SAMSUNG/MOT) never even thought of and trying to penetrate there. In fact Ovi was create more of people in 3rd world countries. Not sure if it's the right strategy but time will tell.

The growth that RIM and Apple/Android device are having is simply logical. If Apple sold 1 iphone and the next quarter it sold 2. That's a astonishing 100% growth in sale. Of course it's not just one but putting it in term of actual units like 500K unit sold and then 1 million is still relatively small to the 1 billion symbian (mainly nokia S40/S60) devices out there - they're like chicken scratch. Apple and RIM will continue to grow and gain market share and it's not suprising because their overall world market share is still relatively small.

The stats don't mean much for Nokia. Unit sold and revenue generated are the more important numbers for them. Ovi is a real monster if you fully understand it - but for tech geek it's just a piece of crap.
