*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I think because for apple and palm in the cellphone indusrty its all or nothing maybe, the n97 isnt the end all be all for nokia it is a big fagship device but its not gonna make or break them.
The pre is palms last resort and Apple only has 1 device so easier to plan for.
This is purely based on my opinion lol:buddies:

Again, THAT'S FINE. As someone who's STILL interested in potentially buying it, I completely understand it's draw, and I use my phones a hell of a lot harder than most people.

Really?! After all of the evidence that has shown the difference that 3D acceleration makes and even the performance difference we've seen from their 2 year old devices to the ones put out last year, you're STILL going to say that it's not necessary for them to do any better? Are you one of those guys that buys the $300 laptop from Best Buy and ignore how much faster the more expensive computers are?

I'm not just talking about the i8910. The Palm Pre's using OMAP3, the iPhone is going to be upgraded with 256mb of RAM and a faster processor (even though it outperformed almost all S60 devices with the specs it had last year), and all of the WM devices are being bumped up to 256mb of RAM+6-800mhz processor, if they haven't been already. These are also all of the devices that will be available to your average consumer subsidized for significantly less than anything unlocked from Nokia. Regardless of whether or not they -need- the hardware, they -have- it, and from there, there's no reason not to improve the software to -use- it. Nokia's can't move forward like these other devices can because they don't have any devices with the hardware!

Maybe I'm just "old school" in that I'm used to Nokia being the brand that's ahead of the competition and I'm pissed to see them lose that title.

I played around with a n97 in NYC last saturday. The scrolling seems ok (better then the 5800), but i find it really bad when it is in landscape mode. Atleast you can use the dpad in that situation.

I just doublechecked and yes, even at the unveiling back in december where the white version had the original feature bar, the black ones were blank.

:(

Well sr1329 cleared it up a bit for us. New message notification pretty much overlays over whatever you're doing and you can choose to view it or hide it and view it later (if I understood correctly)

Hi Liberal Hippie,

Many thanks for your help but i had alreday seen your thread which is why i wondered if i had missed something and they were all just hiding some where. I actually had a couple of WRT widgets running on my E90 and it doesn't seem like the choice has got much better yet. I have alreday downloaded the Accu weather one in preparation for my i8910 HD arriving on Thursday but none of the others really have any appeal for me. I don't Tweet or use FaceBook or for that matter knit,I only upload my Photos to Flickr and that's so easy to do with their own app and not something i would want taking up space on my Home screen either.

For my E-Mail now I'm returning to S60 i will use Seven once again i don't know maybe it's just me but i just don't see the big deal about these widgets and none bar the Weather has really appealed which seems like a shame really. Especially as i should be able to add as many as i want as have 3 screens on which to put stuff on my i8910 HD Maybe Touch Wiz will offer me something more interesting i know they have a YouTube Widget as well as also having a FaceBook one to so will have to wait and see what else they offer.

Marc

But you asked for it. Sitting in a $700 smartphone thread announcing that you just need something that just places calls. The techie stuff is germane to the discussion of a modern smartphone.

If I am a condescending bas tard then so be it. And unlikeable.
