*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

i did try, and i completely agree with your sentiments on the 5800, maybe i am just hoping they cant be the same. If i was into touch there is no way i would take the 5800 over the iphone you cant compare the touch experience.

Yes I do not expect a huge amount of widgets right from the beginning but if there are thousands of apps, in theory evey developer can develop a home screen widget for its app. So assuming every app offers a home screen widget and we have 1000 apps to start then you have 1000 widgets just like that.
Again, all this in theory.

In the other hand Nokia will offer many high demand widgets from day one.
Weather, Stocks, News, Facebook, Contacts, Apps, Calendar, Email and Ovi Store Widgets, will satisfy most of the people.

We tried to account for the two vs one speaker thing by muffling one of the N95 speakers as best we could and still, the N95 could be used as a stand only stereo if one really wanted.

I haven't owned a Nokia in 6 years, so the N97 will be my first in a long time. Needless to say, I am very excited!

I went to Verizon where my world was crippled. Then the iPhone where I had a Ferrari with a govener set to 65 on it. Now I want something free! Where I can use the phone to it's full potential! I'm really stoked about this!

Lol, go to the E90 thread and say this.

Majority of us did that 2 years ago, and quite a few did for the N95 as well, and now will do the same for the N97.

I don't care what they do as long as the keyboard works. That's of primary importance to me.

Does Opera 9 double tap zoom at least zoom text columns to fit the screen? For example on a page if there are 3 or 4 columns of text I can double tap that and that column fills the screen perfectly so I can read it without scrolling at all.

How do you get to a custom zoom in Opera 9? Does it present a bar?

I played on the unit in Chicago on Sunday. They removed the battery. The rep told me the software was still the prototype and didnt want anyone getting bad feelings based on software. I can agree on the build quality. I like the size and feel of it as well. I like the heavy feel. The rep in Chicago told me June, maybe July. He did tell me the browsing experience is much better than 5800, more finger friendly.

I'm pretty sure when they say "in stock" that means just what it says. All the N97's they have coming in right now are to fulfill pre-orders (like mine).

They're not gonna sell you mine! They are not going to say mine is a "in stock" N97 because as soon as they get it they are going to ship it out to me.

Understand? In stock means they have it available to sell to you. The pre-orders have already sold out their first shipment.
My order still shows as shipping between june 9th and the 22nd.

People like to gripe about the lack of a new processor, but how much would a faster processor really affect the phone? Most aspects of a slow processor can be hidden through clever techniques, like the transitions on the iPhone.

I'm not buying the "processor is everything" argument. To me, efficient code is much more important. S60 is very mature in this aspect.

Nokia could make the phone appealing to spec-whores (not calling you one), but I'm sure they know at what price their phones start picking up in sales. With no US carrier onboard with the N97 yet, a lower starting price means N97 gets in more people's hands.
