*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Hey, I just checked my Order Status in Nokia and the Bluetooth headphone now is "In Progress" and the total amount of my purchase was blocked again in my credit card.

Outshone by what again? How much faster do you think the OmniaHD is going to be? Do you imagine me besotten with out of memory errors and trudging along while you blaze by? Will you be a full second or half second faster to that web page than me? Will it change your calculation if real world tests show that to be less than 0.1s difference?

You've already indicated that your pictures may not be any better than mine.... though they can be bigger (if you're going to be doing prints bigger than 11x14) and be able to take them when someone smiles instead of when I press the button. Your screen may be a bit more vibrant... you may see some battery savings.... FWIW, Nokia is claiming 2 more hours of standby but 30 min less in talk time...

I have near 100GB of music and video right now. I could handbrake up a few more of my DVDs and easily push that. I do a whole movie in slightly less than 1 GB. 24GB of music is how many thousand songs that I don't have to carry my iPod classic for? If i want to carry a movie or two, some of my favorite music and still expect to take some full res pictures, you can certainly appreciate how valuable that extra storage is to me, even if it doesn't apply to you, right?

Obviously not or I'd order an OmniaHD wouldn't I? I can afford it, but am choosing the features that I think will be worth more to me. As you did.
The keyboard is the only deal breaker I would need for my decision. The 3G band is runner up while the extra storage is icing on the cake.

EDIT:
Ah wait, that's the subjective thing, huh? Obviously nokia is spending more for 4x storage. Less on 1/2 RAM. Less on the CPU. Less on the screen? isn't one of the benefits of AMOLED that it's cheaper? More on the keyboard. Less on the camera module. Less on video processing. Similar or the same on most of the basic functionality. More on a separate NAM model.

Software? Who knows how much Nokia spent on widgets and how much it cost Samsung to bring in some third party camera software? What else?

I agree, I think by now most of us have seen enough videos and pictures of the form factor. We all know the sliding mechanism is solid.

What I really want to see is a video of the software and OS in action. We probably haven't seen too many of these types of videos because I'm assuming the software hasn't been finalized. But this will be the make or break for me for this phone. I want to see the software in action and I want to see someone using all the different aspects of the phone and how well, or how poorly Nokia integrated touch functionality into 5th edition.

If I get this phone, this will be my first N-series phone from Nokia....I'm quite eager =).

All 3 of those links use the same GSMArena info, which they put together in December 08 based on the prototype. Guess you didn't see my last post so here's some more pics.

You must be colorblind...tell me, does my User Name show up as Brownz to you?

especially since all the reviews have been pre production models... Not to mention the phone os is supposedly incomplete and still in beta.

Is this any sign of hardware or software update? (before release), Or just expected distribution time? Can they be making changes at the 12th hour or is too late for that?
Thanks

Krieger

These new Nokia cameras ie. N97, N86 are worse than the older generation. Just look at the blown out highlights. All in the guise of better low light performance. Daytime shots just look overexposed in every situation. The result is visible even in the web sized shrinks of the shots.

If they do release it on March 31st, that would be much earlier than I would have expected. I was about to buy the Xperia X1 but I guess I'm gonna wait for the N97.

What they're doing with the Pre defies logic though. It's almost like they weren't expecting people to like it when they brought it to MWC. However, it is Sprint and Palm we're talking about here.

One thing occurred to me. If it's too good to be true than it's a scam. What if Nokia USA is accepting pre-orders for fake phones from China? The NOKLA N97?? :hehehe: :hehehe: :hehehe:

Well... sorry guys. I guess I'm still a little dizzy after one more time accepting to pay to be a beta tester. I'm glad at least this time I paid a lot less for the privilege.

so the .50 version is good, do you know where I can download a copy for free

:D free

EDIT: i found it with a bit of google-ing but it only has maps for europe :(
i'm downloading city navigator north america nt 2009, any idea if that's work or not?
