*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I'm too trying to find a 16gb version, I was bidding on 8gb version from a seller in Italy and bidding ended on 470 Euro.

"Be the first to get your hands on the new Nokia N97" Slogan!!
I did not pre order, but I really feel bad for people who ordered from Nokiausa. Never buy from them, I chatted with a rep today and he said it will ship in 3-4 weeks! What a load of ***

I think it goes without saying that simply the fact that it has 2 speakers instead of 1 should give you much better results than you had on your iPhone for speaker quality. Any Nokia phone with stereo speakers is better than the iPhone's mono speaker.

Did you see him scrolling in that currency app? Wow just wow. Just like the 5800. Not even 1 to 1 motion. You need to slide your finger nearly 3 times the length of what you want to scroll through.

How many times did he need to touch "options" to get it to recognize it?

Just pointing out what is obvious to those who are not blind.

First of all, this just made my week!

Secondly, this "major distributor" is getting 1600 of these shipped to each of their warehouses! That seems like a lot for a higher-priced phone, but hopefully this means us pre-order folk will all get their phones quickly if this many will really be available June 2nd.

What the hell is the point tho? If you have Wi-Fi access why wouldn't u just fire up the laptop and go to justin.tv? If they were charging $15 or less there wouldn't be an issue.

I'm not even willing to pay 700 for the N97, I paid $600 on Amazon and again, that was really pushing the limit. The normal me would have waited until the price dropped to $500, but I broke my 6500 screen last week...and I plan on using my N97 as my main camera, and my main mp3 player (I'm not sure yet about the mp3 player part because I have to see how well the built in music player is). So 200$ phone/200$ camera/200$ touchscreen mp3 player...600$ for the Nokia N97...that's how i was thinking when pre-ordering my N97 ( my only concern right now is the music player...a friend told me he used the 5800 music player daily and it was good, but I'll have to see for myself)

So...nope, I would never pay $1k for the N97 if it had the screen and camera of the omnia hd...which is once again why i'm happy with what the N97 currently offers...

Certainly you recognize that the privacy screen has great utility for those who need it, though?

Your desire is for multiple widget screens, perhaps in other directions. This isn't mutually exclusive with the privacy screen. I could see two (or more) multiple widget screens, though there could be resource concerns with them (much more so than simply hiding what's already there, which should cost next to nothing).

This is very true. However, Symbian S60 has been the only OS for me that has successfully balanced the right kind of convergence with apps, performance, and multimedia support. I certainly agree that it may not be the best OS available, and there are times when I do get bored of Symbian S60 staying the same.

With my upgrade credit coming from AT&T, I actually considered getting the Bold and trying that out for a while. But I don't know if the Bold will be able to measure up to the kind of user experience I have been accustomed to on the Symbian S60 OS.

Goooood morning fellows Nokia users :hehehe: I'm back!! haha.

Seriously, I agree with you liknsmak, AM Radio specs are too ambitious, I think that the next flagship will have those specs, and maybe they can announce it but I'm not expecting it to start selling this year (and if it does it will +800$ until next year).

And the bigger screen and consequent size is one of the things I dislike in OmniaHD, I agree with you, 3.5" is good and I'll only accept a bigger screen if they keep the same phone dimensions (not that easy but not impossible).

If somebody bought the phone just because it's "the flagship uber mega phone" then will be pissed, but if that person bought the phone because likes it and does what he/she wants then won't be pissed and simply will decide if the new phone has something valuable in it that's worth the extra money or not.

I don't see the problem in a company improving their products, I think that Nokia is being slow in their internal developments and maybe N97 was supposed to be launched a little early and that's why the specs aren't top of the line, but apart from RAM I don't see this phone as a fail, I agree with you that is not worth 700$ but it's worth +500$ at least because it's a N95 with more disk space, bigger screen, more resolution, qwerty keyboard, bigger battery, faster processor and touchscreen. N95-4 it's selling for ~390$, don't tell me this differences aren't worth at least 100-150$ if you can pay it.

lol yeah. I did give a bit of a squint when AAS said "Web (with a big page loaded), the N-Gage client, Music player, plus the Ovi Store and a few PIM application".

now I can understand maybe having the music player on when you're browsing the web or even playing a game... but why would you have N-Gage client still open while you were browsing or doing your PIM ? Especially after a couple days.

I can see, hey, i'm gonna check for an app real quick or see if there's an update on Ovi... but after a quick check it's pretty much user error if you leave N-gage open for a "couple days" or don't close the Ovi-Store when you're done browsing. You can't throw enough hardware at user error.

Ah yeah, sorry. As aforementioned allegory. When you quote better it's clearer so that maybe I can follow the conversation better. :embaresse

EDIT: lol, noone wants anymore essays anyway, so have the last word if you want.

Ain't gonna happen. It's not a simple chip swap in terms of hardware and there's a helluvalot of changes to make on the software side. As a previous poster said, a lot of these devices have integrated RAM and ROM on the same chip and are simply addressed separately by the software.

Not to mention you would need to update the MMU in order for the processor to find and address this extra RAM.

If the OS and heap reside at a specific location in memory, they would need to be adjusted, as well as the bootloader to point to the new address.

And who's to say that the memory controller on the motherboard can even accept higher density memory?

Everyone will get used to the location of the spacebar. It's just like switching between different T9 keypads that have the space key located on either the #, 0 or * keys. After a couple of hours, it will become second nature.
