*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Uh yeah? If that were in there don't you think 3D acceleration would be on the feature list?

Or are you announcing a new Samsung product?

Watch Toshiba and their 1GHz 4.1" phone. That's modern technology. I'll bet Opera 9 flies on that *****.

But it seems like nokia is starting to take care of the north american market more than it used to. The NAM variants of phones are starting to hit quicker than they used to. And if the N97 nam hits on june 2nd, at the same time or even before the euro version that will be a good sign of things to come

Typing question for you guys(and gals).

Currently Ive been a blackberry fan for years and have come to love all its qualities. I'm on the n97 preorder list. One of the things I love about the BB is when typing, all I have to do is hit the space bar twice and it enters a "." and makes the next letter a capital for the start of the sentence. I had an n73 back in the day and having to hit a couple keys to end the sentence and then capitalize the next letter was kind of annoying.

Are the newer phones with qwerty going to be like the n73 or will they act like the BB having the double space shortcut?

Don't be surprised if they come out with a version of Handy Shell specifically for the N97. Either that or someone else will beat them to it. My only fear is that in exchange for allowing more widgets, the maker of the software will force their own widgets onto your homescreen.

Finally an S60 I can be excited about....after Nokia came out with a bunch of same phones in different form factor and minor updates (i.e., N95, N96, N85, N82, N79, etc...) This is something to get excited about for me....finally an N-series with keypad. Now that they updated widget interface and Roadsync updated Exchange....I'm good to go. One thing that worries me is the 1st half 2009 release. That's so long away and by that time there may be other phones that will be available that are killer.....that's what lost it for me for the SE X1. Why such a long time? Usually 1st half mean June release. :(

As I said, I acknowledge the 32gb storage capacity and the hardware keyboard (though the latter is inconsequential because I never was able to fill the 16gb on my test N96, much less 24gb combined). For the price you paid, I think the value in it for you is excellent, especially considering you can't use UMTS 1900 only and value the storage and keyboard. My point is that those 2/3 advantages are heavily outshone by the dozens of features on the OmniaHD that the N97 doesn't have (and for less money). That's my point.

Throw away personal preference for 2 seconds and look at both for ALL of their features, their prices, and when each is being released. Can any of you at least admit that there is more value in the OmniaHD in that instance?

If I don't like it, I guess I'll be trading it in for an N97!

Seriously though, TouchWiz can be disabled and the default 5th home screen can be used instead. I've been giving a lot of thought over which home screen would be more beneficial to my usage too, but I guess I can decide when I use it. I do know that the N97's new home screen with widgets doesn't do much for me because I don't need anything to consistently update throughout the day.
