*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Ok, nice vid in some respects, but work to be done remains.

Transistions from app to app are still disjoined; portrait/landscape transistions have too much "black out" time. I know why its done, but eh, that makes the device look slower.

Looks like a lot of the complexiity of input was taken out (please do the same for the 5800xm).

All icons need a tap and hold menu, there's no reason that they shouldn't have it.

FB app looks very WRT-like. Makes me wonder if Nokia is thinking of taking Ovi and making it a WRT that plugs right into the software. That would take away from the dependence on the Symbian Foundation for rolling out PIM updates, and allow for some other customization options.

Looks good. I want it yesterday.

@fldude99

Nothing like a nice bit of xenophobia and an American calling and suggesting the British are wierd talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
LMAO.

To me, N97 will be basically my N95-3 but with everything I missed on N95, in other words, in my eyes, it will be a perfected version of N95. I don't look at it as some insane, innovative piece but rather an addition of features I missed to N95.

makes sense?

I love the long touch add/remove content on the home screen for widgets. I just tested that feature on the SDK and it works as well. First time I've seen someone do it that way versus the whole options menu approach and have to say it will be really easy to adjust the home screen widgets depending on what I'm doing. This leaves the door open for developers like Handy to come in with an option to Handy Profiles to adjust content on the fly for when you're at work or not based on the GPS location.

MObile City ONline changed their dates so many times, they have no creditbility at all... ETA are BS dates.

So that confirms the July 16 is just another gu-estimate.

Anybody bought from these guys?

http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.cgi?action=enter&thispage=01100250U023_BBC3467P.shtml&order_id=!ORDERID!

They have the N97 for $606 & Free shipping.

I'm trying to convince myself that its actually a good thing that its not being released here in the UK until the end of June, because at least I then get to see lots of reviews from you guys in the US before I hand my cash over.
Its not working though. I want it NOW!!

Sorry guys, but I cannot stay with the N97 any longer due to a few issues in regards to how I am used to using a phone. I have decided to return to my E71 since I seem to be more of an ESeries user instead of NSeries.

I may look into selling or trading the N97 for a comparable device like the HTC Touch Pro 2 or even the Nokia E90 Communicator, but I will wait and see.

Difference is those are button based phones and this is a touchscreen phone. You don't have just a dpad and 2 softkeys to interact with the phone but 3.5 inches of goodness!

Yet to be seen if 3GS will support multitasking. I don't recall anyone saying that the iPhone 3GS will actually support it. If that was a selling point I would think that we'd see this pushed down people's throats at the key note.

Unlike FFR, I have used S60 devices first hand and still appreciate the OS (to a degree). FFR has never had anything positive to say about S60 from the beginning.

Why do I need a reason to be here? Can't I just read up on the N97 as it unfolds with the rest of you? Don't try to weed people out just because they aren't as excited about the device as you guys are.

It smacks of hubris to realize that not everyone values the same features that you do. A grain of salt should also be realized that some people make more than others and that $200 is comparitively worth more or less. Sometimes much more so. In this case, though, I can easily quantify what that $120 is going for. 24 more GB, a built in keyboard, and another 3G band versus losing things that are of debatable dollar value and real world impact.

Noone has either one, do they? We can only argue specs and preview videos. Are there any for OmniaHD? The real world impact of those specs will be vetted out by the owners and we can engage for real in June or July.

Yup. Historically Nokia devices always have ****-ups every single time. Even the most venerable E90 and N95 had their faults. Makes me wonder what they'll mess up with the N86, what with them having the N85 as a beta and all..

This guy says you can overclock your Nokia S60V3 so maybe we can do this with the N97.

This new Verizon Nokia phone picture is ugly, not sure if the phone will be. Maybe someone can search USPTO to see some better images and screenshot them.

So far HP is the only one with working prototypes of memristors.

If they slap some of those in their next smartphones that'll wow the s*** out of everyone.

UGh. I very much prefer my matte screened penryn MacBook Pro versus the gloss only of the newer unibodies.

My 24" Dells are also matte. Only an effete artsy would want a glossy monitor that they can shave in front of when it's turned off. :p

The videos and most stills have been VERY kind to N97. It's screen looks marvelous and far superior to 5800 in every way.
