*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I almost got tempted at that price too but then suddenly remember Nokia 5800, Dell deals. If Nokia is selling it for $699 we can hope for Dell to throw in a 25% off sale on Mobile phones and then if we get lucky with some additional coupon (15%) like it happened with 5800, we can dream to get it for around $450+

By the time this phone is released in NA, Apple will be running a quad-core CPU in it's 4.0 iPhone... lol

Nokia = FAIL

Crappy hardware, misplaced space bar, terrible browser & ridiculous price!

Just to explain the terrible browser point: my E71, that I love to no end, annoys the hell out of me: I load a page, and then when it's 75% loaded, it disapears, and starts to reload again. I can avoid this behaviour only by disabling JS. Just aweful behaviour for a smartphone.

Not everyone likes to lock their phone. Some people are VICIOUSLY against it (friends of mine who will start hour long arguments about why me and a couple of my other friends swear by it)

Why did Nokia say 1st half of 2009 when we know probably for sure that it will be out in June :D At least they should have just said Q2 09'....although I'm obviously hoping for earlier.

This phone really got me excited about s60 again. I've been going back to BB and Winmo because I just feel that s60 has been dull the last couple of years and I'm glad Nokia has finally woken up and started to listen to what the market wants again.

Bla bla bla bla bla.....some people are hopeless....

I finally preordered my N97 :clapping: (Black of course :D )

This will be my first N series
First time i preorder a phone
First time I actually pay for a phone ( :D )

If you preorder on Amazon from now on, the earliest estimate of when you'll get it is June 29th :( ...Hopefully, they will get them a few days earlier than the 25th....Well i'm off to bed, dreaming about my N97 :angel:

One thing I don't see mentioned enough here that gripes the hell out of me is the removal of the internet calling feature that my 95-1 has. Maybe most folks in the US don't use it, but I use VOIP calling frequently on my 95-1 with voipcheap SIP settings to call family overseas for free...for this reason my 95-1 will have to be a 2nd device even if I decide to keep the N97 (if it ever ships)..

If they manage to pull off some magic and get everything on the N97 to run smoothly without hiccups (even 3rd-party video playback of uncompressed DIVX or H264, AVI files, beyond just a smooth and responsive interface and seamless web browsing) then the faster processor and beefed up RAM might be uncalled for if it drives up costs for the end-user for no reason. I imagine the bulk of the price is in the 32GB solid-state memory, which is still not inexpensive. Of course the first statement might be wishful thinking, but you never know..

According to Engadget, if Nokia tweaks their "dated" Symbian OS for touchscreen, it is still dated. However, if Apple tweaks Mac OS which is even more "dated", then it is OK.

Some do, some don't. Usually the more simple 3rd edition applications work on 5th because it retains the same option menu structure, but other apps need to be updated.
