*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Hey guys,
I am a long time nokia lover, and first time poster on this thread. I have the n95 and have preordered the n97? I just heard about the potential replacement to the nokia 810, the n900 with OS maemo that figured to have 3g phone capabilities. Here are the specs:
* 3.5 inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixels
* Quad band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz)
* Tri band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity (900 / 1700 / 2100 MHz)
* GPS
* Wi-Fi
* Accelerometer
* Firefox 3 with support for Flash 9.4
* Multitasking
* VoIP support
* 5MP autofocus camera with sliding cover and dual-LED flash
* OMAP 3430 CPU at 500 or 600 MHz
* 1GB of virtual runtime memory
* 32GB of storage space, expandable with MicroSDHC cards of up to 16GB
* 1320 mAh battery
* 111 x 59.7 x 18.2 mm
* 180 grams
It looks almost identical to the n97 but rumor has it that is will have 1ghz chipset? Would anyone care to comment on whether this would be the perfect nokia device?
Here's the link if anyone care to read up on it,

My thoughts exactly. I really don't care how long I'm locked in for, I don't see myself leaving rogers anytime soon since I have no other options. Bell isn't even in my city, and we just got Telus last month, but with how often I change phones, I kind of need gsm for the sim cards.

I know they were talking about going GSM, but I read somewhere that they are setting up for 4G before going GSM??? I may be mis-remembering what I read tho

I'm not saying a device has to look a certain way to get a certain processor, I'm asking, if we had to sacrifice the look of this device, for a faster processor, how many of you would still be this excited about the N97?

It could have a 1Ghz SnapDragon processor even, but if it looked like the 5730 XpressMusic I wouldn't look twice at it. Let's face it, it's an E75 that's been beaten to death with an ugly stick.

There's nothing wrong with the processor as long as the phone does what I want it to. I haven't used the production version of either phone yet and neither have you so we don't know if the difference in processor speed is even worth mentioning. All it is are numbers on a page.

Why does it bother you anyway? There are other phones with faster processors than the flagship device...so what? That's Nokia's problem, not yours right? Fanboys take things so personally these days *tsk tsk*

After using Bold on a daily basis since July 08 - I'm hard pressed to find a better phone. I have a feeling I may get the N97, not like it and end up with Blackberry Onyx whenever that's out :lol: - OR the N97 might just become a secondary device if it cannot match up in the ease of use.

For what its worth, here is quote from comments section on the above engadget post:

Wrong! I called up Amazon customer service and estimated delivery for those who pre-ordered earlier is still early June. Apparently the first shipment of units was eaten up by customers, so everyone pre-ordering from yesterday onward received estimated delivery dates of June 25th and onwards. Straight from the customer service reps, at least.

Ya, a xmas gift for me is what I'm thinking also. By then something else will surely have shown up and the N97 will be reasonable. I'm kinda waiting on tmobile's line up for anything good to use on their 3G. I' good for an upgrade price. I wonder if they'll ever pick up symbian. That'd be sweet. They need to get a clue or two from the big "D" mothership in Germany.

It never ceases to amaze me that gaming is actually any criteria in evaluating a cellular device-Does anyone over the age of 35-40 actually play games on a cell phone-or play games at all for that matter?

at&t is expensive. i want unlimited text and unlimited data usage, i pay just 60 a month , i get that, and 3000 minutes, a month, i dont talk that much anyways. im sticking with cincinnati bell.

I was originally going to suggest that but I don't know if they'll have the NAM at P-mall. Has that shipped yet? I thought people were still pissed that they pre-ordered and have nothing to show for it

I have the feeling that texting &/or typing an email with a real keyboard just can't be replaced by an on screen keyboard-qwerty or not...since texting and emailing is a huge activity, it is imperative that the hard keyboard on the 97 is very user friendly..the consequences would be a device that would be a candidate "for sale" imo. Just a concern as I await the delivery of it

Very excited about this phone. I had to wait a day or so to get confirmation on the two big points for me: Stereo speakers and lens cover. This phone is almost perfect.

Almost because S60 could be better and the Jesus phone has a better touchscreen, both IMO.
