All this discussion goes to show that everyone has different needs from their mobile devices. I, in fact, tend to line myself with THETRUTH#34 in most of my preferences. I also use all features that sr1329 does but I don't care much about how many key presses it takes me to access my emails or my appointments. So as long as the information is there and I can get to it somehow, I'm ok with it.
Now the multimedia aspect is extremely important to me. I'm a family man and I have a 4 year old daughter and it's very practical to be able to take a picture (or shoot a video) of whatever she's doing at any moment I want. I concede it's not gonna be equivalent even to the cheapest point&shoot, but it's good enough to keep forever. I also enjoy watching videos, some games and browsing the web (full web, not wap, puh-lease) on my phones.
I'm hoping the N97 will be good in those areas. If it does the same job the N95-4 does in a larger screen then I'll be happy. To me, anybody who says the N95-4 is slow (menu transitions and stuff like that) is way too anal or used to the kind of speed I've never seen in my life.
So my concerns with the N97 are:
- Lack of hardware 3D acceleration. I've seen a couple of videos comparing some game on a N95 and a N96. The N96 was horrible!
- Free RAM. I like to have multiple applications open at the same time and if this thing starts having memory problems I'll be annoyed.
Even with these concerns I jumped on the $454 deal. But if Nokia goes ahead and in 3~4 months launches an upgraded version of the N97 with bigger RAM or H/W 3D acceleration I will definitely throw away my membership card and never buy one of their phones again. I will be then convinced that this is all a plot to sell the same phone twice, those mofos.
