*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

This year is gonna be amazing for gadgets, so much stuff is coming up.

Next Gen iPods/iTouch
Walkman X series.
Samsung P3, already out, but not in U.S
Zune HD
Nokia N86
iPhone 09
Omnia HD
PSP GO

Uncharted 2 on PS3 :hehehe:

Etc, Ok I'm done, can't write all in here. :p

I see it differently.
I'm sincerely hopeful that the N97 (haven't touched it yet, I'm still at work!) will perform ok for me and actually I think it will. I don't multitask much (but I do try to open some pretty large websites).
But if they do come up with a -2 it will mean (to me at least) that they are conceding that the original specs of the N97 were insufficient for proper usage. If it was done intentionally, they were being a$$holes. If it was unintentional, they were being incompetent.

I hope it's not really that loud when opening as it appears in the video cause that can be embarrassing in a quiet place :p

Well I'm reserving my judgment too about the keyboard and general feel until I receive it ;)

So, is there ANYONE that ordered two? and is willing to send one up here? PM me!

I wish I knew Canadian cards are accepted over the phone! Would've called them instead of *****ing abt Nokia's website!

Wow. ****. The white/blue keys lit up are gorgeous, especially with the chrome trim.

I have no idea which one I like better now. ugh I hope I can see both in person

EDIT: Look look a period button! Sr, the nokia designers aren't completely clueless!

It's all a phase. We all go through it.

Sometimes we want a phone that's different because no one else has it and it is/looks expensive.

Then you get to this point that if you want to show off you do it with a nice car or house/apartment whatever that floats your (not you but anyone) boat.

At that point your phone, which you could afford 10 of anything you want if you really want 10 phones ( :hehehe: ), becomes a tool to make the kind of money that allows you to afford that new Lexus/BMW/MB/whatever. That's when you can't afford to be slowed down, frustrated, lose contact of a client, not find information pertaining to a client etc. by your phone.

So I guess we all are approaching this issue from different perspectives. Right now I am responsible basically for doing my own "CRM" so to speak. In the future I may have someone else doing that for me. At that time maybe I too might want to buy a toy that is useless in actual business roles but more of something to pull out in front of everyone so that everyone asks "what is that?"

One thing i learned from the 5800 which should apply to the n97 as well is that its much quicker to access apps buried in the menu. Its almost like having another active standby screen. Basically with one press of the menu button you now have 12 icons staring you in the face. And each one is accessed with just one click, no need to scroll or anything. So in a way with touch support it expands the menu button to a whole other app screen launches.

So i'm not worried about lack of widgets or homescreen apps.

We'll see. It's a failing of Nokia and Symbian, and still by the end of 2009 then all the additional feature packs for S60v5 will be excluded from the XM5800/N97. WinMo users can always flash to WinMo 6.5 and 7.0 when the latter will be released; even much older handsets like the TyTN II can flash to them. BlackBerry and iPhone and Android users get their full-fledged firmware updates, with no phone left behind (features being selectively excluded from phones that do not have the explicit hardware support). Symbian? There was no reason for the N95 or even E90 communicator to not be able to run FP2 on their S60 bases, yet there is clearly no regard for customers of past flagships. What a bunch of crap. Nokia and its Symbian love has been a big joke to the end users from the start; by-and-large they don't really care about us.

Thanks for posting that link.

Please keep posting news/links/videos/impressions WHATEVER till June comes around. I'd like to still stay interested in this phone!
