*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Too many essays.

Please list more useful info. like:

Links to video, review and additional/new info on the device.

Discount/Saving on the phone (ie. coupon code like the crazy saving before)

Many people are tired of scrolling through these, assumption previews/reviews of people who never even touch the device. These essays are very emotional but I don't think it adds value to the thread.

FYI: Microsoft Cashback is having 10% off eBay/Paypal.

If anybody knows eBay discount code, please post them and share.

I'm super pissed on missing out the crazy Nokia discount and am looking for the next best deal to buy the device.

Going cancel my $699 Nokia Pre-orders; buy from eBay and save pm tax when it's release.

Bottom line is that the N95 changed the face of the cellphone world..combining a smartphone and cell in a great package. I have travelled to 10 countries with it and it was a truly trusy companion

And why not? What experience do you have with Samsung to show that they wouldn't also take care of their customers and/or build an excellent product?

The only complaints I've seen have been the lack of firmware updates for the i8510, which is supposed to be remedied with Samsung's own version of NSU that's available now.

Don't be:

np pal, appreciate the input.
not wanting to go too off topic in the n97 thread, but i can safely say the jump in mp for a canon slr is in no way related to how mobile phones jump the mp without quality.

i think i may be too excited about the n97, i cant resist checking every message that comes into this thread now...............i blame it on gwapz :)

I'd be more that happy if this device is released in April. Hopefully, the NAM version will be released no later than June, even tho I don't have high hopes about that. I predict June for Euro and September for NAM. Until then, I will buy the X1a which most of people in this forum hates :2thumbs:

Basically meaning S60 is fine, the N96 is a turd.

Honestly having used the E71 and E66 S60 feels like a fresh new OS to me. Contrast that with my experience with FP2 -> what a joke of an OS "upgrade". I know FP2 devices are fast for all of the first week and then they get screwed.

I haven't had my E66 for too long so we'll how long this honeymoon lasts but I have a good feeling about this. I'm not hesitating in installing whatever I want on it either. Still runs like a dream.

I mean if the differences in OS are so stark between E-series and N-series I'm going to be very sparing in my purchase of N-series henceforth. I should have bought the E66 instead that joke, the N78.

The newer CPUs have power saving features that greatly improve battery life.

I don't have any interest in this argument as I've moved on from complaining here but this is probably the only important thing that's came up from the past 5-6 pages:

Samsung has the goods but it's nowhere near the mainstreamness that Nokia's S60 phones are. If they want better apps for their platform, they should be delivering hardware that lets developers take advantage of better speeds new features 3D animations and the like. Ultimately they are responsible for enticing developers to come out and play and if they don't provide why do they expect them to come when it's 2009 and the competition has better tools, distribution, and hardware?

I'm afraid I'm not sure that any new apps will really sprout even after the N97 had been released worldwide because of this. And that's perfectly fine with the new symbian coming out, but it's going to be hell for consumers who are going to be buying devices that will lose support and developers that may or may not want to take part in these next few months due to the 3 revisions of Symbian Foundation OS being released, with the final version not coming out until next summer. I just hope Nokia will survive because I've got a bad feeling that missing out on these next few months is going to be deadly.

i would no go back to the CDMA days i would wait for the unlocked verision to come out or the ATT one.... but more then likely the unlocked will come out before and i expect the price to be around 500 hopefully.

I had the phone set up to just list my phone memory contacts in the phonebook and not the sim contacts. Every person that was sending me a text was someone who was in my phonebook, but it still just displayed their phone number instead of their name. I'm waiting to get a text back from someone since I've cleared my sim contacts to see if that makes any difference. I'll post results.

Edit: And I did try adding a 1 and also adding a +1 to someone's number in my phonebook, but when they texted me, it still showed up as their number rather than name.

Resistive experience on this is as good as capacitive. However multi touch will make a difference. You don't need 800Mhz or even 600 Mhz processor on this. The phone as is with 400+ mhz is freaking lihghtening fast already. RAM I agree, more RAM is always welcome. Bigger screen? You wanna carry laptop in your pocket? It is big already. Keyboard is as good as E71. Keys are not rasied as in E71, but the tactile feedback is superb. I don't see any issues with the keyboad. Yes, I am enjoying the most! There is already a support thread, no need for a bugs thread ;)

Interesting. In all the demos and pics I've never seen a stylus with the N97 so I assumed that it would not have one. And I didn't see a place for one to be stored. This gave me hope that they'd improve the UI to be easily used with only your finger. Now that there's mention of a stylus all that hope goes out the window.
