*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Other than the one link, has this been confirmed anywhere else that Nokia REMOVED the on-screen QWERTY keyboards? At CES they were bragging about the ability to use full screen QWERTY, small QWERTY and T9 all on the touch screen so I'd be surprised if they removed that functionality at this point.

sucks. and they gotta ship. we should just pre-order from nokia.... :( everyday makes it harder NOT to pre-order as I fear there won't be enough and i'll end up waiting till like september

Isn't there a shipping method from UPS or Fedex, where they ship your parcel on the next available commercial fight? So the item arrives within hours. It must be that method.

Why would you cancel your preorders? Noone going to be there to sign for them? Or you're going to pick one up abroad? Should be at least 2-3 delivery retries/days of delay in there before any shipper returns to sender.

What are you talking about? I thought you read the thread at mobile review where they go into detail about what Nokia means by single CPU and dual CPU. When I linked to it here, you said you read it.

If you did you would know what the difference between Nokia's assertions of single CPU and dual CPU.

If you read it you would know that there is no such thing as Dual core in phones yet - that's what OMAP 4440 is about.

To refresh your memory, think OMAP + Rapidowaye.

This is pure slightly higher clocked dirt cheap 2 years old Rapidowaye. I think that much is obvious. They did the N96 thing once really to support the DVB feature and that was a big deal to them like it was some N92 revisited.

Anyway go read post 241 again:

"LeChuck
"Dual CPU" is fine, "dual core" - is not. N95 is NOT "dual core". One works in real time, the other is not. Unlike on PC, Symbian does not control the entire system, it does not even know about "dual" part, it is not operating the phone, it's more of a java sandbox."

It just means that on the N95 and N96 rapidowaye is hanging out and helping with some basic baseband communication stuff. As he says it is not even aware of the ARM11 CPU in there unless it needs it to perform said baseband communication functions.

Yeah, nice they sell the same stuff in the $200 5800. Basically.

$700 in a world with OmniaHD, Palm Pre, new iPhone? Ha ha ha ha! :hehehe:

it's been a while since i've followed the updates but the last time i checked, bell and telus have plans to go GSM for the upcoming olympic games in vancouver.

someone correct me though if this is no longer true.
