That presupposes that N97 is supposed to be the best that Nokia can come up with. I look at N97 as answering failings in previous Nseries that always kept me waiting for the "next one" (as you noted: increasing the storage, NOT removing the SD while adding the oft requested/demanded QWERTY and big touchscreen).

My biggest regret is the lack of xenon flash, though the RAM and point and shoot gimmicks (panoramic and blink detection at the very least) would be next on my list for improvements in a future model (without abandoning anything else, hopefully). Is it possible for the point & shoot gimmicks to be added via firmware? Definitely not realistic, I think, but is it feasable? We can hope for optimization to help on the RAM front.... not much can be done about xenon....

When you use the iPhone's touch interface, you can see how every little aspect of a user's interaction with that flat piece of glass has been thought through to a level that Nokia cannot even think through basic things like:

Why can't the user see the date and time of his/her e-mail message without having to enter and scroll through a menu?

When searching for in-phone data why must the user have to wait nearly a full minute just have the search re-executed just because he/she hit back to see the search results?

Why is it that when a user views an appointment in the calendar that when they open that appointment they can't just click into it to edit it but rather must go into the menu and click on edit just to edit a single field?

Why is our download app such a slow piece of ****?

I have many more but, I really don't feel like remembering them right now. I'm sure you have yours too.

Nokia clearly is not capable of thinking through basic things leave alone creating a new interface for buttonless devices. They don't have the ability to think through a whole new way for users to interact with a flat surface. It was just easier to just keep the same thing going only now you touch it instead of using a D-pad. The simplest, cheapest most worthless non-innovative way to put S60 on a flat surface without buttons. Even there they can't get it right.

So what's the ABSOLUTE BEST the N97 can have?

Sounds fine for a $400 phone.
 
Navifirm has all the information along with product codes and everything. Whether anything changes when it gets closer to release is yet to be seen.

RM-505 looks to be Euro while 506 is an APAC phone with only two product codes. RM-507 is the NAM version with product codes for LAM, NAM, SAM, etc.

my 2 cents on everything is, the nokia e90 was very expensive, although it was value for money for people who bought it for its many various reasons, but that was before the netbook era.
nokia cant afford to ignore the fact that netbooks have a large impact on our technological society and will not be able to justify selling the nokia n97 for 800, flagship device or not.
Nokia must know this as they are pushing their new maemo tablet harder than ever while their stable phones, e71 etc, have rapidly been dropping in price.

I would take an e71 plus new maemo tablet for 700 anyday before i take an n97 for 800, but thats just me. whether i can afford it or not isnt the issue, im sure most people can afford to buy 5 or 6 phones here if they wished. To me i like to know i am using my devices to the best of their ability and efficiently.
Currently, i use a nokia 5800 and samsung nc10, before i had an e71 and asus eee. If nokia can get the price right and i find i dont need to use my netbook as much, then the netbook goes.
without turning this into an iphone debate, Nokia is a leading phone retailer and doesnt have the same niche market that Apple does and cannot expect to overprice the n97, in my humble opinion.
 
many have had the privilege of playing with a pre-production prototype...like yours truly...i actually liked the experience a lot...it was very responsive and fun to play with...the keyboard was different then any other i have laid my fingers on...but like with everything else...it will take to get used to...
it is sad to see many people bad mouthing the device so early...ffs it hasn't been released yet...i absolutely agree that it is not a dream device that offers revolutionary experience in every scope of a mobile device...and the ovi store is somewhat of a disappointment with their prices and so on...but i still consider the n97 as a functionally sound, fun to use mobile phone...perhaps it is a stepping stone towards a device that will eventually become a real flagship...but so what...lets rejoice and reel in this ****er already... :clapping:
 
A lot of online vendors do have a policy that if the charge is denied by your CC, you have to place the order again. This would not surprise me.
 
I'm here because I have an N97 on order. Nothing is wrong with my bold, I just have an addiction for new phones like many others here. My old N73 was one of my favorite phones I've had but that was 3 yrs ago. Doesn't seem like the OS has improved at all in that time frame. Also I've come to love certain applications on a daily basis. It would be unfortunate if I couldnt continue to use them.
 
with an asking price of $1K+ on the 1st week it will be out, for me, i just might get another E90 rather than N97 if i really miss having qwerty keys...

but that is just me, i am bit turned off by it's keys, perhaps because they used a soft rubber rather than a hard one, perhaps the size, but its just me...

so my point is, if you are getting the N97 because of the qwerty and touch screen, coming from a person who uses both 5800 annd N95 everyday and have used the E90 (and sometimes missing the E90), the N97 does not offer much of an upgrade for me, but again its just me, so all i am saying is, you guys better try it 1st...
 
Would be interesting to compare this thread to the N95 thread when that was on the verge of being released. There's a lot of discussion and anticipation for this device.
