*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I do the same now that it has been pointed out. However that spot is still below the "N" for me. The spacebar there is far to the right. At the end of the day, it is something to get used and will be fine. If the rest of the phone delivers, you certainly won't here me complain about the keyboard. :buddies:

It reminds me of the difference between the reflective surface on newer LCD monitors versus the older, softer LCD that didn't reflect at all. Art students hate the reflections on the newer screens, but the rest of the world loves them, myself included (posted on 24" Gateway with reflective LCD :clapping: ).

If you don't like the phone that's cool. But it's definitely not an N96 and it's definitely not a 5800. It's a N97 and until we each get one in our hands, every opinion we've stated in this thread is bullplop, complete bullplop. You might have your reservations but I'm sure even sr1329 will at the very least play around with one before he completes his thesis

Oh, I got you. I've done some of the examples and have started on my own, but that's a great tip. Gonna have to try that out.

It's possible it's QC variance there.... or a software-related glitch. Someone with the problem and a scientific mind could probably correlate some decent data. Doesn't Nokia claim to have sold over 2 million? If the problems were as bad as some are making out, theyd' have been paying for it in returns, you'd think.

Meh. Quartz is the render and GL system for the UI. When you talk OS X interface - you're talking Quartz. Anyways...

I plan on selling (all if I have to) my devices if I have to, to get the N97 provided it has a decent feel, isn't plasticky and they change the keyboard a bit.

Oh who am I kidding - I'm gonna get it no matter what flaws it has.

This is one of the rare things that makes me happy to be canadian, I signed a contract with Rogers because I simply do not care at all, lol. I mean, there's only 3 major mobile provider in Canada: Rogers/Telus/Bell, and the two other use CDMA technology! I mean come on, who wants CDMA... Since Rogers is the only major GSM provider, then sign me up for 10 years if you want, I ain't going nowhere, lol, i have no other choice :S

in 3.0 apple has already gotten rid of the loophole of logging into other itunes accounts to redownload purchased apps. so enjoy it while it lasts! sorry that it didnt work out for you, but ive redownloaded alot of apps so far from "my stuff", however none were paid.

When people are refering to "wpm" are you saying that you can type like 60 "words" per minute on the cell phone? Or is it 60 "letters" per minute?

 :befuddled

If you can type 60 "words" per minute you must have really good thumbs cause this post have about 60 words and it took me about 2 minutes to type on a normal qwerty keyboard on a PC.

the specs seem underwhelming (cpu/ram wise), BUT nokia has been working with s60 for a long time now, and i think they know what it needs to make it run, and what it needs to run good! iam currently using the 5800 and i think it runs great! its fast. doesnt dissapoint one bit. you can still multitask on it so i dont think there will be a problem. sure if you wanted to port Linux to it then you do have a problem, try to port android to it first!

yes the comparison to the iphone 3.0 is justified, but it will win in sales. people are so uneducated about phones. they buy what they see more. look at commercials...you will see a dozen iphone apps adds on with in an hour. people see them and say i want it. if nokia launched US commercials depicting the n97 and what it can do, played them lots of times, dont you think it will get some sales form the iphone?

numbers are numbers let the end user tell us what they think and see if the cpu is fast enough!

Well keep in mind that you'll be typing with your thumbs and not just resting them on the spacebar when you get an N97 so it won't matter where the space bar is.

The low RAM is concerning. Oh well, iPhone 3.0 will be announced tomorrow.. let's wait & see what apple is upto ;) There is a romour that apple might release 12 variants of iPhone ..upto 64GB mass memory!

Man, me and you are very much alike (nohomo). The Vox is a solid, solid machine. Mine was great running 6.1, battery life left much to be desired though.
