*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Judging by it's weight and the spring assisted slide mechanism, I think it's made out of pretty high quality material like the X1 but without so much fake brushed aluminum on the outsides.

E90 size & weight is thing of the past. There is no way we can carry such big size phones these days when the manufacturers are trying to keep the phones slim & light.

Maybe they just want to keep some of the features secret and it's easier to keep it secret by releasing enough details to keep us talking about it and mentioning the stuff we don't know in passing.

Just checked MobileCityOnline, they've reduced the price of the N97 NAM from $899.99 to $669.99.

At this rate it makes sense to just cancel my $699 pre-orders. I can always pick-up a N97 at the NYC Nokia Flagship store.

Maybe by the time the phone ships in July, there will be some other discount from Dell or some wild 30% Microsoft Cashback for eBay.

Unemployment rate will only get higher and spending will decrease even more...

They were talking about using the phone without touching the screen, and I don't understand the fixation with capacitive screens, having used both to me everyone has advantages and disadvantages and in fact a resistive well calibrated is as sensitive as a capacitive one.

That suc*s, Nokia insist in having an artificial E and N series separation.

Yeah, I thought so, contrast is very good and colors look very real, almost like a basic point and shoot, I think that maybe they improved camera software algorithms because lens is supposed to be the same.

No, that's exactly what I'm talking about! Over the course of even the N97's production cycle there have been probably a dozen different versions of it, all of which were updates from the previous model. If they do the same thing they did with the N95, then they'll follow the early adopters complaints, continue to update the same model, and when they have a revision that's large enough to be salable, they'll release it as a reworked version of the original. It won't be a "new" phone, it'll have the same model number with a letter or number attached to the end of it and it will cost slightly less than the original did when it first came out.

A Production review from UK. Mentions the keyboard travel

"The build quality of the keyboard on my review model also has to come into question. Not all the keys have the same amount of travel, with the middle and bottom rows performing better than the top row. Individual keys also vary"

I felt this too when playing in-store. Perhaps its better to wait for a few production runs to see if the Keyboard is improved???

I almost would too, but I think people who are completely new to S60 think Nokia would never dream of insulting their customers by releasing a proper version of a flagship phone after everyone already spent their hundreds of dollars on the original, when the truth of the matter is they've already done it several times these past years.

************!!!! I'm pissed....n here I thought I had gotten myself a N97 for $500...effin nokia website (or birghtpoint, i don't know who to blame)...I ordered around 2am last nite, and it said that my card was declined, but they still charged me....so I waited in hope.....well...I guess I'll have to really wait until the price lowers to $500...pfff
