*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Guys, it's a global launch in June. End of discussion.

If I knew you guys would try to depress me so much I would have kept flaming the guys who said the phone was brown.

Cross the E71 off your list. I'd go N85 > 5800 tho simply because the N85 has keys. (I could only imagine the nightmare of entering all my podcasts in with the on-screen keyboard)

To be honest, it looks like they've rectified very little about the huge stack of issues with S60v5. They don't have most of the absurd soft input panels because of the keyboard, they've added kinetic scrolling in the browser and they've thrown in widgets.

If you find S60v5 to be frustrating, then this isn't the phone for you.

From the Q&A:

I had assumed it was coming with the new messaging client same as the E75. If that's no the case then the free RAM is even more concenrning. :crying: Though I guess there's less of a concern about Mail for Exchange working since that seems to be totally screwed up in the E75 implementation.

But you shouldn't have. It was new hardware a year later to address all the screw ups on the N95-1 with the low amount of RAM and since the hardware was available for a year the firmware should have been decent out of the box. My N95-4 was a great upgrade to my aging E70 but it really is slow compared to the E71. Actually, the v31 firmware on my N95-4 works pretty well so I really can't complain too much. I saw a decent speed increase with that update. Gives hope for future versions of the N97 code.

I wouldn't worry too much about the scroll bar size. It seems it is so easy to grab you really don't even have to actually touch it and it still registers the scroll. At least on the 5800.

I'd like to think that typing the first few letters of a contact's name will bring up the Contacts search on the N97. I'll test it on the SDK later today.

no im not, i merely am basing it on the fact that the 720p was the dealbreaker for me in terms of choosing the omniahd over the n97.
but wont be a factor to me anymore, due to the release of the t1i.

anyways, gwapz, i have seen the dimensions in terms of thickness on gsmarena, how thick does it feel in comparison to the nokia 5800 and the nokia e90?

In real life usage does 7.2mbps really make a difference from 3.6mbps? Data speeds dont even get close to 3.6 in real life usage currently dont they?
