*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

It was known as the RAZR from day one. In Asia itself.

I had mine in 2005 when it'd just come out, and when I took it back to India they all said "Oh you've got the RAZR".

Maybe it was branded differently? But it was always known as the RAZR.

Here is an excerpt from an interview with David Wood of Symbian Foundation;

"He also underscores that Nokia only has one voice on the Symbian Foundation board, where decisions on road maps, architecture, and user interface matters are made.

And yes, the current user interface--Nokia's S60 that was recently adapted for touch-screen use in a way that didn't really impress everyone--will be replaced.

"It's called Direct UI and has already been designed. It's available in labs and will be shipped in phones with Symbian release 4 at the end of next year," Wood said. He mentions new features, such as the capability to control the phone by hovering above the screen but not touching it."

I'm posting it to let everyone know that the next OS/firmware updates are going to make all of these handsets (N97,Satio,SS HD) using Symbian kick ***.

I am seriously considering leaving my lovely E71 behind for this but I don't think I can plunk down US$1k for a phone. At least logically. But the thing seems soooo tempting :crying:

At least the latest firmware improved massively the horrible photograph quality to a point where the camera is almost usable. Maybe I should just lurk around the clasifieds for the time the early adopters sell off their first N97s :hehehe:

The radio modules are hosted on the FSB. If you overclock the proc, you will also change the cycles of the radio. There's a reason manufacturers pick the chipsets they pick, some are fully integrated and some are not. There's a big difference between HTC devices and Nokia devices.

I am going to pick up my n97 tomorrow :D
but I was just wondering can you use your finger to flick through songs like on the iphone? I couldn't find a anwser anywhere on the web so I thought I'd ask here.
Thanks!

While I understand what you're saying, it's pretty ironic that an I-phone user can make suck statements. You think it's by chance the i-phone doesn't have 50% of the features other phones already have? You really believe it's just by chance they forgot BASIC, BASIC features? Anyway, that's another discussion.

The truth is, early adapters are 90% of the problem, they buy phones early NO MATTER WHAT the cost! Then they suddenly wake up and come on here and b*tch about the quality of the phone. If they were to get a grip and take a stand against the sub par build quality being shoveled out, believe me, we wouldn't be here right now. Most here aren't willing to wait on unbiased reviews and them form and opinion. No, they have to have the latest and greatest! The truth is though, we're talking about a phone here, so really 99.9% of the people on this forum can afford to buy ANY phone they want, but if we constantly blindly buy without actually questioning the quality, Nokia and all others have no reason to improve. If they did, they would have, a long, long time ago! Honestly, I don't blame them one bit. Idiots are numerous... let them continue to buy first and complain and ask questions later (IE: AFTER purchase). It happens every single year on here, so why should they strive to improve? Like it or not, most people here are the problem!

Doubt it. I don't see any hackers making FP2 run on old phones.

I don't doubt that its possible but really who wants to put in that work? Nokia will never do it and I'm pretty sure it requires hardware flashing which most people cannot do.

Or the coupon codes were inadvertently added to the N97 when they shouldn't have been, plus the codes stacking for even higher savings. We will have to wait and see if Nokia honors the orders that were placed.

Apparently, mine has already arrived.. :)

I can't check until Saturday, because I'm currently abroad, but my wife says there was a delivery attempt from Earlysville, VA. Can anyone confirm or debunk whether NokiaUSA delivers from there?

Thanks...

You sure are downplaying all of the features of the N97 by calling it a 5800 with a keyboard and widgets sr1329, but to each his own. By your logic, I can say the Palm Pre will be crap because Palm has been making crap since the Treo 600 and I know their track record. People, companies, technology are all capable of change and in the past year Nokia has shown that they are open to listening and open to change. Different strokes for different folks my friend.
