*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

T3 have a brief review up of the N97:

http://www.t3.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/nokia-n97-review

Hardly the most comprehensive review I've seen and certainly not terribly informative. I get the feeling they didn't have much time with the thing.

Oh, one interesting comment from the thread below the review, probably to be taken with a pinch of salt though:

'According to a T-Mobile rep, the N97 will be out on their network at the end of April.'

Well do you have some new info? Cause we ALL thought it didnt have true predictive text until yesterday when allaboutsymbian confirmed the opposite yesterday. It was posted and linked a few pages back and even copied and pasted to this thread. And we even asked if he meant t9 and no, it has t9 and predictive just like the e71.

I'm glad for a couple things, specifically:

-It has the new design of the next generation of Nokia's devices
-It's WHITE and white phones are rare/hot and don't attract fingerprints
-US 3G will be operational for most on the one compatible frequency it supports, so no NAM version necessary
-I love the slogan on the back side of the hinge. Not the slogan itself necessarily, just the idea of putting one there.
-I love the raised and depressed nature of the volume rocker. It just makes sense. (I'm all about the details)

Well you should buy the colour you like the most. No point in sitting around and worry if it's gonna get dirty or bleched by the sunlight. It's a phone, and phones are replaceable.

I've had my white E71 for a couple of months now. A few days ago I bought a brand new white E71 to my girlfriend. Our phones look identical, my two month old is _not_ miscoloured in any way. Just keep it away from hours in direct sunlight, since sunlight have a tendence to turn white plastic into yellowish-looking. But honestly, who keeps their phone lying in the sun? :)

For ya all who cannot wait, you can purchase n97 HERE

Few buyers in this thread know this seller and he always gets it first. It will be Asian version and according to my experience, you will get it in 3 days max via Fedex from HongKong.

Well, it wasn't anything to do with coffee or drugs, but merely a video that brought the story in. See, what I didn't like was all the hype surrounding this phone with no evidence to back it up. However with that video (thanks for posting it, Jonty) the evidence is there. I have no problem giving credit where it is due be it Apple or Palm or Microsoft or Nokia.

I had legitimate complaints based on my experience with the 5800. The video shows that they have first recognized those issues and secondly acted to improve the product to fix those issues. That is a good sign and a major departure from the lack of any progress over the past 2 and half years since the N95 launch.

Still it is now a contender and firmly one. It is not yet the winner. Before, based on the 5800, I didn't even think it was in the same league as the big touch screen phones.

i want a black one with red lights, or a white one with blue lights ;)

Hey Blaxx, so, hehehe, if the black N97 comes out AFTER the white one, will you still wait until the black one comes out to buy it? :P

You've never used widgets in OS X or Vista? Same thing... realtime views of background running apps. Even without the social networking stuff, which I'm not really interested in (though am entertaining the thought of facebook since my wife and several friends are on it), the email (web access, duh - since you'll be able to see who sent you an email and the first line of it it appears), calendar (self-contained without needing web access), music player (also self-contained without external web access) have obvious utility. You can also make a row (maybe two) of 5 of your favorite contacts with a thumbnail pic and populate that on your home screen. Think of it as speeddial without the numpad.

I myself doubt I'll need the shortcuts since menu/applications/app doens't seem particularly onerous to me. I am a bit dubious I'll do the contact(s), either. Calendar and email are no-brainer obvious and will likely have the music player, at first. If I keep it or not, depends on how many other widgets I want to use. Leaving 2 more to choose from (and 3 if I don't keep music player).

Hi all,

I think you'll find the reason that Tom Tom stopped developing thier software for S60 was they got fed up with so few sales whilst everyone was installing cracked versions and depriving them of ther rightful income.

I agree. My intentions are not to troll the N97 thread like this and I'd really like to continue the discussion in a more appropriate thread. I'd really like to see a mod move mine and maybe some other people's relative posts to that thread.

I don't a thread that's supposed to be about news and info for the N97 to be corrupted with "VS" info, though I would suggest that people read both threads before making a purchasing decision (unless another $500 glitch turns up again).

speaking of screen protectors, has anyone found a place that carries them for the N97?? Checked Martin Field's and didn't see anything. i wanted to have it ready to go once the N97 finally arrives.
