*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I guess nokia really is scared of the iPhone and pre threats...hopefully they can make this not turn into the 5800 fiasco again because this NEEDS to be out around that time.

Though I hope they're not sacrificing anything in terms of testing to get that date.

1-Fortunately for me, no, although a lot of bricked phones

2-Very responsive

3-Nice size and feel. Good weight, but a little slick. Just a matter of time before it is dropped.

4-Very pocket friendly

If anyone has seen the phonescoop video where she uses the browser on the N97 it definitely loads pages much faster than the N95. So I'm going to say that the cpu is going to be considerably better.

Just 1/2 pages before your original inquiry on this I posted clearly that their is going to be a NAM version listed on the developer page.

Check on "General" Heading on this site ...

TouchPro2 - not much innovation just a nice update - bye-bye flash (yet AGAIN! They've done this twice TyTN I -> II, and now again). Touch Pro 2 does looks like but that MSFT WMv6.5 looks like junk to me - personally. I just hope HTC can redesign the GUI right down to the core!

Yet it still outsells the competition, and what is the competition you speak of i would like to hear your devices and please dont say iphone because that hasn't changed much at all either lets compare the specs if you like, You will say the processor speed and you are right but aside from that what can the others do that the n97 cant.
:buddies:

Nice review, but the google engrish is even worse than mobile-reviews.

Things that caught my eye: About 80MB free on boot. Camera and AF apparently working good (unlike mobile-review). Ovi-Store and many widgets not ready yet but will be updated? Not sure if he meant the Russia specific versions...

In his defence, nokia specifically made it known that with the n97 to expect major firmware updates on a level much different and better then their previous average support. Now if they actually do this we don't know. But for benefit of the doubt they did make a public announcement that starting with the n97 will be a new ball game regarding new features being added with upcoming firmware updates. So in defence we can't use past examples if they are going out of their way to make it known they will be improving over previous updates.

yeah the lack of panels is very frustrating. the 4 they announced at MWC is a joke. Espn is the first one i'd want. I like the facebook one alot although the iPhone facebook app is still better. But where's the myspace panel, or twitter, or gaming panel. They really missed a good opportunity with it.

I think it and the N97 are very comparable types of phones but I think the N97 will be more convenient. It is kinda a pain having to switch out a panel as your home screen just to run a certain app and then you lose some of the other functions of your other screens. With the widgets on the home screen like the N97 will offer, it will be much more convenient. I just hope we are not waiting till September or so for the NAM version.

I'm willing to take the dive with the N97 right away so that I can check it out for the masses. I don't mind beta testing if it means that less people will suffer. Needless to say, I'm not parting with my E71 to get one.

And more importantly: "Every flavour of MP4 I flung at it worked ok though."

That's great. Almost all of my DVD rips are already mp4 for my iPod classic.
